Default Bon Profit redux

Bon Profit re -opened at the Os Cachelos site last Monday. Interesting cos genuine Mallorquin food trying to get re-established in the square. Extremely good value lunchtime for locals at c 9 Euros inc wine but will they be able to cope in the evenings in such a competitive setting ???

Bonyladette and I , on our last night , grabbed an evening meal of the day offering at 18 Euros + IVA ( including wine) . Great value and extremely nice food. Frito seafood Mallorquian para madame and melon & ham por moi. Followed this with stuffed squid. I went for the pud ( simply for the sake of this review !!! ) of a lemony cheesecake . Coffee all included as well.

Jesus , one of the co- owners, asked what we thought . Very, very tasty food but portions a little too big, half the size we would have still thought it was good value given the taste and the price. ( Told by a couple on the next table to shut up but they had walked to Pollenca and back during the day !!!!)Service very attentive and friendly and they are obviously so keen to make into a big success.

Really, really hope they succeed cos they are local people competing with the very professional outlets , who are out for the tourists ( putting the food aside) of Maxims,La Piazza, BBQ lounge, Tex Mex, Tiberi, El Moquita, Kashmir etc etc. They'll need to be on their toes when it's packed in July/Aug but if they can get this quality of food out en masse, it could become a feature .

So , well recommended . Definitely worth your support.

BonysLad ( just shutting the back door from the heat here in the UK, it's raining in PP as I write !!!!

Welcome back!

Bon Profit sounds great - I wish them every success. I like the location there - just on the fringes of the square but still part of it. When it was Os Cachelos we ate on the steps of the church and it was lovely.

I will add this review to the RR thread and hope that it's well supported over the summer.

Question Location of Os Cachelos?

Where exactly was Os Cachelos?

Was it on a corner opposite La Piazza - or under the apartment block Ipa Plaza [looking onto the church]?

We tried this out last night (Saturday). Its new name is Can Andreu which is displayed inside but outside the new signs have not yet gone up.

Had the excellent menu of the day for 18 euros (including IVA)

Starters: Frito seafood Mallorquian for both of us - delicious
Main courses: Lamb shoulder and Stuffed Aubergines - the lamb was superb, pink and just fell off the bone, aubergines were stuffed with beef and pretty good
Deserts: The ubiquitous “pudding” was the only slight let-down

There were only two tables occupied when we arrived about 21.15 but by 22.00 the restaurant was pretty much fall. The atmosphere was lively and there was a good mix of background music.

Note that smoking is permitted so if you are not smokers, then avoid a Saturday night as most of the Spanish table occupants were smoking.

Jesus, one of the co-owners used to be front-of-house when it was Os Cachlos and still works at the Stay restaurant.

We shall definitely return

Default Bon Profit redux

Thanks Bonyslad and Mariquita!

Sounds like the place to try, and to support a local enterprise serving Mallorquin food!

Might well try it very soon now!
