Default New pollensa tapas bar

I'd just like to make a quick recommendation for a new tapas bar, called (I think) Es Mir 45, which opened up in the old town recently. Run by the chap who used to own the much-missed Clivia, it was packed with locals every time we went past, which is always a good recommendation - so we had to try it. We didn't have time for a full meal but ordered various picky bits to go with a glass of wine. Everything was very fresh and flavoursome and the other food orders we saw looked delicious. Great wine too. Apart from Bar Nou there isn't really a proper tapas bar in Pollensa and this is a very contemporary version which wouldn't be out of place in Barcelona. Some really interesting combinations of ingredients mixing traditional tapas with more modern alternatives. Definitely one to try, and they have quite a few outside tables too. It's next to R3Spira.

Do you mean Luis? - the guy who was the chef at Clivia.

It opened between Christmas and New Year (on Boxing Day of all days!) and is absolutely fantastic!

I had lunch there with my parents on New Year’s Eve and it was packed full of locals and, if you miss Clivia’s house speciality Lubina de la Casa (Seabass in Malvasia Wine), you will not be disappointed as it is one of the sharing Tapas plates!

Highly recommended!

It’s where Xicra Cafe used to be opposite the Chemist on Carrer de Miquel Bota Totxo.

Been in a few times now just becasue I live up the street. When its quiet he's okay but when it gets busy he starts focussing on the beautiful people...I'm a scruffy g*t. Its a bit pricey too...

They do get really busy and Luis divides his time incredibly fairly. My son recently went to Son Brull and Can Mir 45 the night after. He said the food at Can Mir was better.

We tried this on Thursday last week. Went about 2pm. There were a couple of empty tables and service was very quick and efficient. We were impressed with some of the dishes, less so with others.
Our favourite were the fish croquettes - really tasty, small bite sized chunks. The squid rings were really nice too - fresh and a very light batter, although came with no dip. The big disappointment was the battered cod. We left some of that as the grease was just running out of it.

Despite that we'll go back...

We went out for tapas today and visited Bar Alhambra. Don't know why but we've never been before. Walked past it many a time. It was perfect. I would say the dishes were every bit as good as Ca'n Mir 1945 and cheaper. Service was great, even enjoying the owners taste in 70s rock music.

The last time we went to Alhambra we were disappointed. We thought the quality had dropped and the prices gone up! We prefer Bar Espanol now.

Ca'n Moixet? We haven't eaten there for some time. Will give it a try and see how it compares. :-)

So we tried Cafe Espanol today. Definitely slightly cheaper than Alhambra - helped by offering half raciones. Food quality wise I thought Alhambra just edged it but my wife thought CE was better. :-)
