Default Loqueria - new wine & tapas bar

Looking for somewhere to dine last evening we came across this new café-bar which has to be the quirkiest place in town. It only opened five days ago and you can easily miss it as it has no signage outside – just some handwritten messages on the windows. When you walk in it is like stepping into someone’s living/dining room. Huge rugs on the floor, antique dining tables & chairs, armchairs, floor to ceiling shelves filled with books, antiques and bric-a-brac with the walls covered in an eclectic mixture of paintings and prints.

The owner is Italian who retired to Mallorca from Milan and bored with retirement set up this new venture. He is a wonderful host and could not do enough for us. It is not a café, bar or restaurant in the traditional sense. They do a small range of tapas for sharing (not individual portions) and with a drink they provide olives (Italian of course), thin slices of cheese (also Italian) and home-made Focaccia bread. Whilst most drinks are around the normal price for the port (aperol spritz – 5 euros; G & T – 6.5 euros) the prices for wine are eye-watering. I have neither the palate or wallet to appreciate Italian fine wines which start at 9 euros a glass.

If you are looking for a sleek, modern, minimalist café-bar with fast professional service then this is not the place for you. But if like us, you prefer a genuine, friendly and unique atmosphere, then give it a try.

Loqueria is at C/LLebbeig 2 on the corner just up from the side road beside Casa Vila in the square. It is open every evening except Thursdays and for market day on Wednesday opens from 1000 to 1500.

Hi Luckjon

How funny. We walked past it last week (obviously before opening day) and I peeked in the window. As you say, it looks like somebodys front room and I was puzzled as to what it could be. Although I thought I saw a bar in there so did think it was a cafe of some sort.

What an interesting place though. We'll definitely go and check it out.

Toni

It does look interesting and very quirky.

I wish the owner lots of luck ..only time will tell if it will work. My concern would be that in the summer, when people are on holiday in a warm country, most would probably prefer to sit outside rather than in a cosy 'room'.
