Default Stay too busy.

I wonder if they will reduce the number of tables to ensure quality and service issues do not impact.
We have been going to Stay for 20 years now give or take the odd missed year. This year it was crammed on the area that was normally used for drinks and tapas with each table eating off the main menu. I definitely felt that there was something amiss this year, although the food when it arrived was up to standard.

It is such a lovely setting and I hope that they get their act together for next season.

The owner of Stay has semi retired and they had a lady who seemed to be running it, I have to say we did not like her attitude and have not been back since.

We were very disappointed with Stay a fortnight ago. Chose it for our anniversary dinner as we have done in previous years but service and atmosphere were just not the same. Very very busy outside and in at 7.30 and we felt very rushed. It felt strange to choose the wine from an ipad! I liked the old style.

I’m really surprised by the negative experiences. We went to Stay three times in July and twice in September and, yes, it was very busy and booking essential, but we found the service as good as ever. The lady referred to, I found perfectly charming.

We had lunch there one day too, and again it was busy but a great experience.

So sorry to hear that others didn’t enjoy it as much.

I think a lot depends on the time one goes. Up until lunchtime it’s never a problem to find a table (except Sundays), and even for lunch its usually easy to sit down, except again on weekends when most tables have been previously reserved.

Weather (sun and wind) permitting, it’s generaly OK until around 5, when the cycling brigade turn up and start bagging all the tables. Sometimes a coach load of German pensioners will turn up, and as is their wont, will sit at the first available table, whether or not it is already occupied.

I generally ignore them or move elsewhere, but the Spanish are more inclined to let their feelings known and politely ask them to find somewhere else to sit.

Quite right too, if I may say so.

We have just returned having eating twice in Stay and everything was exactly the same as it has always been the same waiters, the same food and the same lovely setting. There did not seem to be anymore tables than usual nor were more people eating from the main menu some were just having drinks some snacks and some from the main menu. Maybe it is the time of year as well as the time of day.

I was surprised during the summer when we were able to get a takeaway from Stay. Thought it odd that I could stroll up in beachwear amongst diners who are generally nicely dressed for a nice night out.

Was there last week, as good as ever. It was busy but they can handle it imo. Never had a bad experience at Stay

To be fair, although personally I don't approve, they have been using the IPad wine list system for many years now, not sure how far you are going back to "the old style", I think it's been at least 7 or 8 years.
