La Roca Beach Bar
Apologies if this isn't the correct place to post but I can't seem to find how to start a new thread. I was wondering when La Roca beach bar might re open? After Embat disappearing I am worrying this one may too! Please say I am worrying unnecessarily!
Also is it true that Kiki has left Swing? Thanks for any info |
I think you will find La Roca has closed as well!

I thought it said on FB that they wouldn't reopen, but lets hope you are right!

This was the last post on their FB page :-

Thank you for your replies. My husband thought he saw something on FB too that was what started my question. I couldn't find any evidence of it. I do hope it is not true, with the play area and everything it really would be a shame. Loved the live music on a Saturday night too.
With the money that has been spent on the Llenaire end it would seem strange to get rid of all the beach bars and mean that people go further down the beach to sunbathe. Surely that would even affect the restaurants on the road.. |

I remember there was a story in the press last year about "chiringuitos" being removed from some areas of the island, i think it said that they could not be permanent fixtures but i can't find the story now.

Just to add to this- I think Embat might be back this year - they've said so in comments underneath their Facebook posts. Oh please let it be true - I was a big fan of these chiringuitos :)
prattyIG8 - if it's any help re your initial question, I looked back on Facebook feeds for both bars and La Roca seemed to be open from late Feb last year, whereas Embat didn't open till mid-late April in 2016 (which would be a shame for me cos I leave on the 14th!) |
Re Beach bars
These are indeed strange times we live in. Compare all this closing of bars, tourist tax, removal of property rentals. Then my mind goes back 45 years ago when I first set foot on this island. They were doing everything in their power to entice people here. At the risk of sounding like a parrot, again I say to the few godfathers that are calling the shots, be careful , because as quick as the living standards of the good folk of Mallorca went into the stratosphere, so the opposite end of the spectrum can return. You do not have a monopoly on tourist. |

Sorry to ask again but any more news on La Roca that anyone has heard? It's strange as they are still posting on Facebook (although nothing about the bar) but when I sent them a message asking no one replies. We also can't get hold of Julio who used to run the bar. I am hoping it will be back but I think it all sounds like it might have closed?
|
There is no sign of it at the moment so it is not looking good for this year.
Embat is nearly ready to open. |
I see from posts that Embat has reappeared. Good Luck to them.
Hoping La Roca will appear somewhere on the beach. The Hustlers were a great band to listen to on a Sunday afternoon at La Roca. However, last year, they were apparently fined heavily for both the music and chairs/tables spreading beyond their allotted area!! Apparently there were complaints from a resident opposite every week, even when he was out of the country!! All hearsay of course as anonymity is part of the complaint process!! |
They have posted this on FB :-

Thank you Sparky. My Dad actually spoke to Julio last week who said he was travelling over to Mallorca in the next couple of weeks and was hoping the bar would be back but didn't know for sure but would keep him posted. I didn't post as I didn't have anything concrete but I am keeping everything crossed it will be back by the summer. If I hear anything more I will post.

La roca
We were out in May and were disappointed that the ROCA was not open. In fact it had been obliterated. We think this is shortsighted as due to the excellent childrens play area it was used by more locals than visitors in the past.
Used to be good for a couple of drinks before going for a meal as not any other "pure" bars in the vicinity. A local restuaranteer, I will not name, was happy it was gone as it looked like public toilets and spoilt the view. I thought that it's presence would have attracted customers to the local restuarants. Perhaps will be open this September for our next visit, wishfull thinking!! |

Hi Miller, It did attract customers alright , but not to the local places, which I would suggest is the real reason the restaurant owner was glad it's gone and nothing to do with it's appearance. I can recall several times in the past as I walked along there and it was packed.;) If it's permanent then I think it's all the sadder for its passing. |
I spoke to Miguel who owns La Roca on Sunday and once again it appears that slow moving local council bureaucracy is behind it's non appearance as they still await their licence renewal.
Miguel still hopes to open this year but obviously the longer the delay the less likely this is to happen :( |
If any of your are missing the lovely Julio who used to run the bar at La Roca he is back but is working in the old town. If La Roca does reopen lets hope he returns too. If I can find out the exact restaurant/bar he is in I will post.

Thanks your responses, I agree regarding real reason for objections from other establishments. None offer a reasonable space for Al Fresco liquid refreshment as opposed to food. One should never eat on an empty stomach.
I have also noticed a very old property on the nearest corner heading towards the town which is being renovated using lovely stone rather than breezeblocks. This would be a great place to sit and soak in the view etc. Does anyone know what this building was and is now going to be? Thanks |

I always thought that was a private house. They started renovating that the last time I was there with my late wife and that was 3 years ago. |
Yes that is the one. Obviously very old judging by the erosion to the stonework. I would think that it is one of the oldest buildings in the town. Perhaps one of the local readers could throw some light on it. I assume that there are the equivalent of "listed building" laws in place.
Sparky, can you help? |

Excellent news for both the Port and especially the Llenaire end of town :)

Great news. This bar was always so convenient when one wished to pop out for a couple of drinks whilst watching the sunset. I hope the same staff are there as they were always very pleasant. Cannot wait for May to come, a couple of drinks then a stroll/stumble accross the road to Suirell, bliss.
|
This was always our favourite beach bar and the guy that runs it is lovely - great news!
|
I can confirm that Julio will be back running the bar.
