Default Cafe L'Algar/Voss

Heard on the old grapevine that Cafe L'Algar is to become a fusion restaurant!
Anyone else heard anything?

While having dinner in Centric last week we were told it was changing to a restaurant, not sure which type.

I know a lot of major work has been done during the winter.

Sparky, I vaguely remember this being part of Grupo Boulevard - is that correct?

There's a post from 2012 that lists the Grupo Boulevard interests

http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/...html#post75446

Quote:
The "Tex Mex" is Grupo Boulevard. It has five Dakotas in all (one in Pto Alcudia, two in Playa de Muro plus the two in Pto Pollensa, two Gran Cafes (one also in Playa de Muro), three tabacs (Pto Pollensa, Pto Alcudia, Playa de Muro), Cafe Algar, the Voss shops, two shopping centres in Playa de Muro (where they are based). And of course the "popular" restaurant at which David Cameron enjoyed lunch.
And one from 2015

Grupo Boulevard are a Playa de Muro based corporation.

According to their website, in addition to Luxury Villa sales and rentals, they own the Voss chain of shops seen around the north of the island along with Café 1919, the Dakota and Santa Fe Tex Mex restaurants, C'an Pescador at the start of the Pine Walk, O'Haras and the Australian Boulevard pubs to name but a few.

They also used to own Los Pescadores restaurant on the Pine Walk but redeveloped that into an apartment building now called Edificio Boulevard where a certain famous cyclist now lives a lot of the time.

That's a shame as it was a good place for a cocktail and a place we would meet up with friends. Sad

I agree, we often had an after dinner drink there, and although we like Bonys too, we found prices a bit cheaper at Cafe L'Algar.

Does anyone else feel that there is a bit of a shortage of places where you can sit outside and just have a drink in the evening? I can only really think of Bonys, the Lemon Lounge and that other bar at the far end of the square (near the playground). Everywhere else seems focused on food in the evenings. Or am I missing something?

Yes that is a shame. We could hear building work going on inside when we walked past when we were over at the beginning of the month, but just assumed it was prep work for the new season.

It has always been the 'go to' place for our first drink and club sandwich of the holiday, usually before we've even been able to get in to the villa or wherever else we are staying. We've also used it as a location for meeting up with friends and late arriving family.

Mrs kcdc230 just wants to know where else she's going to be able to get her Virgin Collada now!

But, who's to say that it's replacement won't be even better - at least it's not closing as an eatery altogether.

It was the first place we had lunch in, on our first visit to the Port, but must admit don't use it much now.

I find the same but especially on the front - only really Hotel Daina - am I wrong?

I think most places will serve drinks only later on in the evening once they empty out a bit of diners. We always go to Pascalino for a late drink or three, this place is very under rated I think. Always very welcoming and good for those on a budget. Also Joker next door though they do seem to close quite early sometimes. Both these are in an excellent location on the front.

There are so many places along the front competing that I am sure if there was an empty table and you asked for drinks only they wouldn't turn you away.
