Tolo's
Anybody used Tolo's this year? Think they are having a difficult time this summer.Apparantly two of their chefs walked out causing all sorts of problems for them. Was in last week with no pizza or pasta dishes on the menu also Pepe has left along with another couple front of house waiting staff which has caused chaos with orders not taken and food being given to the wrong tables. They have had a lot of complaints and the standard of food this year has dropped.I also noticed for the first time that they have closed all day on a couple of occasions
|
We have eaten there twice this week no problems at all.

Agree totally Never know what the service will be like Will you get your food in the right order ?? Whos bill will you get !!
Shame as you say the food can be good We only tend to go in there if it looks quiet on passing and we are likely to get looked after straight away Gave up trying to book a table long ago as when you asked for outside you found all you had left when you arrived was up against a pillar inside ! Will go back but when we dont care if we will have to wait ! It is the only place there taht seems to have that problem |
I can never understand why there are always so many cyclists there in the early season, yes I know there is a cycling connection but do they get better service than us ordinary punters or perhaps a deal package!
|
We've only used Tolo's on a couple of occasions (for drinks) but weren't very impressed. All that male sweaty lycra puts me off - and they were shovelling platefuls of carbs in like there was no tomorrow, which you can understand if they've been cycling for hours, but it doesn't exactly provide a pleasant ambience. Think I'll leave it to the cyclists.

He was in every night last week.Dining behind a screen at the left handside of the bar
|
Tolo was a cyclist and is involved in the cycling scene here I believe.
|
Had rubbish service there some 20 years ago, never been in since, but now I know I could sit behind a screen if I wanted.....I still won't go back
|
The first time we went there, we walked out after 15 minutes as we hadnt even been given a menu. The second time (3 years later) we had a lovely meal - in April it was overrun by cyclists so didnt even think about it:eek:

As I said in previous message been twice this year and have been coming to p pollensa for over thirty years. Tolos has always been one of our favourites pepe retired to spend more time in his garden. The cyclists only tend to use at lunchtime. Restaurants are a personal choice as shown by the top five every year. However I can only comment on my personal experience which has always been extremely pleasant.

Maybe he is shy and doesn't like people staring at him whilst dining. I sometimes go to Tolo's out of season. Good but no way near the best. |
Dont know about shy but if you believe the article in the DM today then he was keeping his head down.
Back to Tolo s and cyclists - for those who go into the main building you will see Tour de France and Wiggins memorabilia ie bikes , yellow jersey , cuddle lion etc and on the wall just before the toilets there is a whole picture wall of fame photos of cyclists past and present. |

I see your point re DM. |
Unfortunately I have to agree with all the above. We stay in the Llenaire area but my son loves the cake in the Miramar so as last Sunday morning was extremely windy we strolled down there to placate him as the beach was out. On the leisurely stroll back we decided to stop in Tolos for a late lunch as its the perfect half way point for us. We ordered our food (only pizzas and a salad so nothing too taxing) and bread, olives and alioli to start. After about 30mins we still hadn't had the bread and olives. We caught their eye (no easy task) and they apologised and someone brought a plate of alioli and butter..... but still no bread.... We asked again and after some strong spanish words between the wait staff someone brought bread.... but... at the same time as the pizzas and salad... The kids pizza was wrong but we had waited so long and the children weren't bothered so we didn't moan. Was such a shame as it's a great spot to sit and watch the ocean and people watch with a nice bottle of vino but every time we go we moan about the service.

The first time we went for a meal at Tolos we were shown a table, but after 20 minutes had not even been given a menu - so we walked out! We did go again about 3 years later as we staying quite close and had a completely different experience and a very good meal. It does seem to be a very inconsistent restaurant:confused:
|
We went for the first time in 8 years and thought it was very average on both the service front and the food front.
|
I have heard from a very reliable source that Tolos has been sold to a well known and respected local family so things might improve this summer ;).
|
Tolo retiring together with Sir Bradley? ;)
|
That may well annoy some of our Lycra clad friends?!

Other than that, can't say I'm bothered. If you go back far enough the place was brilliant, always went there for lunch. However, once all the staff changed my last memory was long wait times, wrong stuff turning up and overcharged on the bill. Things can only get better. |
Had a long chat with Tolo in October and he was saying how things had changed around the Port and how terrible he thought the new pavement/ pedestrianisation looked. He seemed quite disillusioned but I never guessed he was going to retire. We have know him for nearly 30 years and although we don't tend to eat there as much nowadays we used to go all the time when the children were younger. It's still our favourite place to go after the beach for a beer, pan y alioli and some of the best chips in the Port :) Will miss our neighbours Tolo, Diego amd Pepe but am hopeful by Sparkys 'respected local family' comment that it will continue as a similar type of restaurant :)
|
As I have posted many times it's our favourite place for lunches off the beach and we have truly never experienced the issues others have mentioned, the food has always been excellent. Trying to guess who may be taking it over now????? Is it open now, would love to go one more time?
|
No it's closed for winter.
|
We liked it there but had certainly had some bad service there a few years ago
Lately we had only gone in if not too busy Wonderful situation and loved their salads We will rely on Sparkys opinion of the new owners ! |
Always a snack and lunchtime favourite.
For enjoying a lovely tall cold beer, watching the world go by over a coffee,, great omelettes, bread, bruschetta and a few other great dishes. The service could be a bit haphazard on occasion, but was outweighed by the positives. More Spanish manana than Swiss clockwork... ;) |

Plenty of space outside for another two or three cycle racks along the new wider pavement. An ideal location for a cycling themed Bar/Restaraunt. https://goo.gl/maps/LTn4BfshXtm |
Our first apartment was in Pinaret so Tolo's was the first and last place for a drink. Some great memories, but also plenty not so great. Same as above really, lots of times of long waits, wrong food and always had to check the bill, which was seldom right. I don't think they deliberately over charged, just not well run. On the whole though, hope the new people do well. Looking forward to trying it again sometime

Tolo's was always a firm favourite for us for a long lunch with a cold beer and a glass of wine or three whilst we sat and people watched or just admired the wonderful bay of Pollensa. We even did the 'Ice Bucket Challenge' on the wall across the road after one particularly long lunch!!
Tolo and his regular staff were always good to us and we really hope that they are retained in the new venture. We appreciate that things have to change but we have been going to Tolo's for 30 years and will retain fond memories of the place. Have just told my now grown up children and they can't believe that two PP institutions that they grew up with (Vall's and Tolo's) have gone in the same year!! So sad.............:(:( |
We first met Tollo when he had the restaurant on the corner at Llenaire Many many
years ago.Became a regular venue. He Introduced Us to Julio Eglasias ,He had one of his first cassettes Hey! Think him And Myra wore the tape out. Frequented the NEW Restaurant For a number of years but it all got to rushed and service declined .The bikers took over and now its all History. Happy retirement Tollo Thanks For The Memories |
