Default Portofino.

A new restaurant called "Portofino" has opened in the old O Lume building on C/Joan XX111. It is an Italian restaurante & pizzeria, we are going to give it a try tomorrow evening and will give a full report on Sunday .

Pleased about another restaurant taking over an otherwise empty building, shame it's another Italian eatery but there you go. Good luck to them.

Do we know if it will be open through the winter? I assume it will be otherwise an expensive venture to close soon after refurbishment and opening.

I will get more info tomorrow but as you say it would seem silly to close up again after just opening.

How hard is it to cook pasta? I have eaten in hundreds of average Italian restaurants and only maybe three or four were very good, however, I can highly recommend Little Italy and would say that although the staff can seem a little off hand at times, the food is very, very good. They are in my top five.

PP has an abundance of places to eat and it's great fun checking them out, it's a major part of the holiday for us.

Cheers,

Jimbo

I have recently been told that Portofino has the same owners as Little Italy.
I hope your review,Sparky, will let us know about the offhand manner or otherwise of the members of staff.

It was very strange walking into the restaurant for these reasons :- not having Jaime to greet us and also seeing so many tables taken in the main area. The decor has changed a bit but the biggest thing was that the screen inside the door was gone, i personally think this is good because you can now see inside from the street which you couldn't before and i feel this did put people off. Also the bar seems to have been extended, allowing the wood burning pizza oven (which made the room nice and warm on a chilly night ) and prep area to be installed at the far end.

So we received a very warm welcome from the waiter and one of the owners who also makes the pizzas (the other owner/chef runs the kitchen), we chose to sit in the main area. Service was a bit slow to start but i think they are still finding their feet and it was busy, they did call in another waitress to help out.

We had a Parma Focaccia to share, it was more than enough for 2, for mains we both had Saltimbocca, veal escalopes with Parma ham in a delicious sauce served with potatoes and roasted veggies. Wine was a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the staff were very friendly and we will definitely go back again. They are open every day and right through Christmas/ New Year, hopefully they will be successful, judging on last night they certainly deserve to be, it is very brave to start up a new restaurant in PP, especially in winter. The bill was 44.50€ .

We called in this trip and tried it and so glad we did, the guy who owns Ca n'Olesa if there currently helping out friends while his wife runs their restaurant.
Fantastic food and such a lovely peaceful setting, the waitress is from La Trencadora and so is the chief so that in itself is a good recommendation for a visit, the food was INMO every bit as good as there if not better.
So give it a try the pasta is wonderful and the pizzas looked fab too.

We enjoyed a delicious 'menu del dia' at Portofino last week.

We had pasta bolognese to start with and then my friend had baked cod with mixed vegetables and saute/baked potatoes and I had pork cutlets in pineapple sauce, also with the mix of vegetables and saute/baked potatoes. Bottled water was included in the 12 euro price but wine was extra. The food was delicious but strangely they had no printed version of the menu choices......wish I'd taken a quick photo of the board outside as we went in.

Service was a bit disjointed but still friendly. We did notice two tables walk out after waiting quite a long time to have their order taken.

We had a chat with Valentino, the owner, as we left and the good news is that he is in the process of opening a second restaurant in Pollensa......and it's due to be called Portofino Pollensa... It should be opening its doors at the end of October 2018.
