I have had goat in Madeira and thought it was more like a cross between chicken and pork. it was in a traditional dish like a casserole and was lovely and not strong at all. It must depend on how old it is and how long it is cooked to get such differing opinions on what it tastes like.

I love goat. It's really full flavoured - as others have said, similar to mutton (if that's any help). Of course, if it's young goat, then it's going to have a much milder flavour, more like lamb. In restaurants, you're most likely to come across it as a leg shank - it'll be braised for a long time and then finished off with a quick roast to heat it through when someone orders it

The only place in the area I can think of that has it as a standard menu item (as opposed to occasional specials) is La Fonda in Pollensa town. They also have a few other less common Mallorcan dishes available - the escaldums were pretty decent last trip.

Thumbs up young goat

young goat is available at Zalzales near La Gola in PP, and very nice it is too, a delicate flavor wonderfully cooked.

The brother in law comes from Soller and, if he's home in the hunting season, goes off to shoot the wild mountain goats. Now, of course, when pushed, he accepts that they're not really wild and will have owners. But, apparently, poaching isnt at all uncommon.
