Default Clivia, June 2015

If Carlsberg did prawns then it would do Soller prawns just as Clivia does them. A generous plateful, simply fried and served with awodge of lemon. They really are delicious. And messy to eat – so you get a finger bowl and a clean napkin when you’ve finished.

If Carslberg did baby squid.......... Tasty squid, light batter, fried so the batter is crisp but the squid only just cooked through. Perfect.

Fillet steak tasted fine, although it was more rare than the requested medium. It comes with a couple of new potatoes and carrots.

I’m not quite sure what I expected from hake with coriander and lime leaves. It sounded quite a punchy, butch dish but it wasn’t. What comes is a light broth with a couple of hake fillets, presumably poached in it it. It’s very delicate with little contribution from the coriander or lime leaves, which were certainly there in the bowl. It’s the sort of dish you can feel doing you good – perfect if you were feeling a bit under the weather. I was feeling fine and was quite envious of the rare steak being scoffed on the other side of the table.

We don’t often order desserts. The enjoyment isn’t usually worth the calories but we thought the offerings sounded decent here. And they were. They were really good.

A chocolate mousse was perfect for taste and texture, coming with a thin dark chocolate outer layer which just added to the richness. And a strawberry sorbet was equally good at the opposite end of the richness scale. Light, not overly sweet and just tasting of strawberry. A perfect end to dinner.
Belladonna and pips like this.
