Default TRIP REPORT - June 2015

Hi

We've just come back from PP, we spent a lovely week, some familiar haunts and some new ones. I tried to take as many pics of the food and the bills and hope it helps others.

I'll add more threads to this once I've got the pics sorted.

First we went to Ca'n Panxo, it was our first visit and we would go back.

We started off with bread, olives and alioli, oh and we ordered a bottle of wine. The thing I really liked was the bread, it was wholemeal and very tasty, overall a great start.

For main I had the lamb shoulder stuffed with pine nuts and quince. I enjoyed it but found the stuffing a bit too sweet. However, I did eat it all!

My Mrs had the steak, with a pepper sauce and really enjoyed it.

I skipped dessert, but the Mrs had a banoffi thing.

I didn't take a picture of the bill, but from memory it was about €62.

On Monday night we went to Celler la Parra. We started off with bread and olives, the olives were a bit more rustic than ca'n panxo's but they were fine.

The Mrs went for the lamb which she really enjoyed.

I went for the suckling pig which was delicious and a large portion.

We both had the almond cake with ice cream, which was simple but lovely.

Here's the bill, €58.65. I always tip about 10% on top. I think this is somewhere I'd always want to visit in PP. The service was swift but not rushed, and good service too.

We fancied Italian one night, so having heard good things about Centric we thought we'd try it for the first time. I always go for a bottle of Mortitx if I see it, so I did!

I went vegetarian, which is rare, but I fancied the risotto verdura. Unfortunately, I'd nearly eaten it before I took the photo! We had garlic bread to share, which is ok. My risotto though was very nice.

The Mrs had lasagne, no picture I'm afraid.

We finished off with two lovely berry pannacotta, again no pics as I forgot.

We capped off with two brandys. Overall it was a great experience and we'd certainly go back.

Here's the bill, it's a bit out of focus, as was I...!

Oh, and the service was very good.

On our first night we went to Coral Bar, we didn't eat though because we'd eaten at the Illa Dor, (more on that later) however, we did have a another bottle of Mortitx, even though the bill say Macia Batle! At €14.80 it was the cheapest we saw that week.

I notice from reading all these Trip Reports (which are keeping me sane at present), that Mortitx seems to be a favoured wine for lots of you. I have never heard of it!

Can anyone tell me about it please?

Thanks

The Mortitx vineyard produces pretty good red wine - it's located on the road from Puerto Pollensa to Lluc, but every time we have driven past it has been closed to visitors. It does have a website though.

Default Mortitx Wines

Thanks for that - looks very good selection. Assuming that you guys are not all millionaires, then I will be having some of that soon. Is it reasonably priced, do you know?

I can only go on bar/restaurant prices, but for a bottle it varies between €14.80 and €18

Must say that the prices are very reasonable as well. We'll be having some of that then. Thanks.

We went to Stay for lunch one day, it was an unsurprisingly expensive one! We had 3 tapas, some croquettes, calamari and the Mrs fancied the won tons.

Here's the bill, the €2.90 for the water was a bit steep.

Enjoying your report and a good idea to photograph the bill, saves carrying round a notebook like I did!!

The vineyard is owned by a small consortium who have each put in a sum of money to invest, a bit like an expensive hobby I suppose?! I think they take payment each year in monies and wine, but I could of course be wrong.

They produce red, white, rosι and desert wines. I think the reason you keep finding it closed is because entry is by personal invitation only?

I only know this because several years ago I was invited there and the tour of the vineyards and subsequent tapas and wine tasting was excellent. A very intuitive and enjoyable day.

P.S. - for anyone who's interested Mortitx is pronounced as "more ticks".

Just a throwaway piece of info!
