Ca'n Josep

We have just had dinner at the "new" Ca'n Josep. Wow!! Fabulous setting and great food as usual. Can understand why he moved which came as much of a shock to him as to everyone else!! He's going great. 90 for lunch yesterday and 40 already booked for next Sunday. It's now a real family affair with his godson, brother in law etc working there. As most forumites know Josep is the perfect mine host and deserves to be successful. We will be back in the summer.

Disorderly 09-03-2015 22:27

I'm so pleased to hear that! We are looking forward to splendid food and company at Josep's in April, July and September and really wanted the family to succeed - clearly they are.

Golfaholics 10-03-2015 12:07

Ca'n Josep

You won't be disappointed. Same chef and most of the staff. Got given a conducted tour of the whole Restuarant including kitchens. Josep is very proud of what has been achieved and rightly so.

animagic21 10-03-2015 14:30

Extremely pleased to hear that all is going well for Josep & Lucie. Every cloud has a silver lining ( so my Mum used to tell me) !!!

Had a really nice meal last week in C'an Josep Ca Vostra ...... place looks good, fantastic welcome from Josep and nice to see how proud they all are of their new venture

Fantastic value as well - can't wait to get back there at Easter

Satori 22-03-2015 19:23

Well, we were quite disappointed. We are in PP right now. My husband has MS, and is depending on his servicedog. Under EU-law, servicedogs should be allowed even in restaurants,, equal to guidedogs. The dog is clearly marked in a vest, and is trained to lie quitely under the table, out of the way. But....we were not allowed in, and chose to find another place to eat. Had a wonderful meal in Los Faroles, where the dog was accepted, no questions asked. :-) Had very good service on Casinet as well. But no meals at Joseps, for us...

animagic21 22-03-2015 19:57

Sorry to hear this. Can only assume Josep is unaware of the regulations. He does read the Forum posts....hopefully will have a change of heart.

You know the saying once bitten twice shy.

What a shame Josep hope you make it up with these people.

That's dreadful especially as, unlike in the UK, most restaurants in Spain allow
pet dogs. I'm sure cd even posted about a baby goat in Stay a few years ago!! In this day and age it seems unbelievable that you would be turned away from a restaurant with a service dog

It seems to me that more and more eateries, particularly pubs, in the UK allow dogs in and I totally disagree with it. Why do some people insist on taking an animal into somewhere that serves food? Can't they leave them at home or in the car even?

This kind of dog though is obviously the exception to the rule.

Disorderly 22-03-2015 22:11

Forgive my curiosity, Satori, but what function does a servicedog provide in a restaurant?

He eats the left overs :)

I think you are right and more places in the UK are allowing dogs inside to eat - in fact I encountered that this morning in Suffolk, where a very well-behaved labrador was sitting underneath a table in an establishment where it wasn't allowed a year ago, according to its owners.. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with it though, as long as the dogs are not barking or annoying other people. It's not a hygiene hazard - probably far less so than human patrons of the restaurant using the loo and not washing their hands - all the dogs are doing is sitting there on the floor, by and large minding their own business, so how is it worse than a child being there? Children are pretty grubby beings and frankly far more irritating in terms of noise levels (and I speak as someone that has two children).

Mojo is trained to (among a lot of other things) provide Tom with the safety and confidence, that: no matter what, - should he drop something, or even fall, should he get dizzy, or in any other way feel uncomfortable (as many MS sufferers do in public Places), -the dog is on the spot to relieve him from any stress of feeling (yet again) as a nuisance to everybody else.
And yes, I could propably do the same thing for Tom, but I am his wife, not his carer, and it is important to his selfesteem (spelled?), and to us as a couple, that he maintain his ability to do as much as possible without having to ask someone for help.
And the dog is trained, not to touch anything, unless he is asked to. At home he is helping Tom with the shopping in supermarkets, butcher, bakery etc. All this is allowed by law. :)

gpm 23-03-2015 10:54

Of course the dog should be allowed in anywhere with Tom. I found while travelling to PP last year through France, our dog was allowed everywhere, even the expensive restaurants, she lay at our feet while we ate. The problem in the summer is you can't leave a dog in the car and most hotels don't want you to leave the dog unattended. Luckily, in PP you can dine outside with the dog but I was quite surprised at the number of bars with "no Perros" sign outside including Manolas which I thought quite strange as its more of a social club where people meet and socialise. Anyway, if they don't want the dog, they don't get me, ( some might say, they're lucky)

Belladonna 23-03-2015 10:57

I totally agree with all "service" dogs being allowed inside all establishments, although I do agree that other pets ~ including goats (!) ~ are made welcome in outside areas i.e. gardens, terraces etc and kept an eye on there. As others have said, I am sure Josep and Lucie will be quite upset to realise they have made this mistake. I wonder if it could have been made by one of the new waiters who are as yet unaware of the law? They will surely know it now!!

Actually it was a waiter, but he wasen´t sure what to say, and went to ask someone he described as :"the boss". He came back after a while, with a: "Sorry, but no." :(
I can´t be sure who he has been talking to. But hope to spread some education/awareness, through this forum. :)

Sparky 23-03-2015 12:31

It is such a shame that this has happened to you Satori, the bars/restaurants in PP are usually so helpful to disabled people. I do know a young, disabled local lad who has a service dog and am sure his parents would be horrified if this happened to them :(.

CanJosep

my husband and I visited Puerto Pollensa in Feb. We tried Can Josep and loved the new venue. Very friendly staff, the food was superb and I am looking forward to our next visit at the end of
I apologise if I have pit this on the wrong thread I will get better.

More info on this website -
Assistance Dogs International : Spain

"Spain
In Spain guide dogs are accepted by law everywhere, ..."

Legislation for Guide Dogs -
Documentos Normativos. Legislación. El perro guía
(the last one 'LEY 1-2014 PERROS ASISTENCIA BALEARES EN CASTELLANO'seems to apply to Majorca)

pollensa 23-03-2015 14:38

It does appear that the recognised term for these are 'Assistance Dogs' or in Spanish "perros de asistencia".

As mike_dublin has pointed out there are laws for Guide Dogs in Spain and some areas of Spain also have specific laws for 'assistance dogs' as well e.g. Catalonia (see http://www.assistancedogsinternation...Castellano.pdf ) .

Such a shame that this should happen.

How do you get a Labrador to not beg for food in such a situation. I'm on my third one and all have had the same problem regarding food. I know, I know - it's they way you bring 'em up:)

Chains1972 23-03-2015 22:50

Hello Satori,

First of all, I want to apologize about the mistake. I was surprised this morning when I read on the forum about your experience. I did ask my waiter about it, he says he didn't know anything about your MS husband problem. He came last Sunday to ask me about if is allowed to go into the restaurant with a Labrador dog, that was the only question he did ask me, and as you can understand, with this information, I told him to apologize with you but we couldn't allow to come into the restaurant with dogs because can be a problem for the rest of the people.
Of course, if I know anything about your husband's MS, I will be the first person to help you and suply you all your needs. As I say, sorry again for the mistake, and we will invite you to come and visit us and you will be very welcome.
Kind regards,
Josep

Belladonna 23-03-2015 23:09

Totally what I had thought had happened, and the response I had expected! Always professional.

Disorderly 24-03-2015 00:24

As you say, precisely the outcome I'd have expected.....an unfortunate misunderstanding. I've always found a simple solution to instances like this - always ask to speak directly to the decision-maker. Such a shame this family had this unfortunate experience, but to the collective relief of all C'an Josep fans, an understandable mistake apologised for with genuine humility.

mwc 24-03-2015 10:27

Nothing less than I would have expected from Josep & staff, always first class as far as my experiences :)

Georgiebear 24-03-2015 10:51

This makes me so happy Joseps is our favourite restaurant and spent nearly all our nights or mornings there whilst in PP last May, as we stay at that end of the Port the walk is about the same as it was to the old restaurant, we are now counting down the days (65) till we can have dinner in the new restaurant which I expect will be the first night! I'm hungry already😄

Apology accepted with no reservations. I had no doubt, it all was a stupid misunderstanding. When I think back, I can see that the waiter might not have known what I was talking about when I said handicap assistance dog/servicedog. But happy that all is cleared. Thank you for your reply Josep.:)

Well Clinkham, as Tom says: If I drop the napkin, I have no doubt that Mojo will pick it up and give it to me, but if I drop a sausage, I am not as confident. :D

Sparky 24-03-2015 12:08

I thought it might be useful for restaurant owners to see what the vests for service/assistance dogs look like then hopefully this misunderstanding won't happen again. Here are a couple of examples :-

Just to echo all other comments. Family table for 9 for Easter Sunday lunch. Restaurant was busy with locals which was great to see. We had fantastic service, excelelnt food and of course a view of the entire Bay of Pollensa to die for. Josep and his team deserve the success that he has worked so hard for.

C'an Josep

Visited C'an Josep last night and had a very enjoyable meal. Salmon and guacamole bruchettas were a surprise served with bread & Alioli then veg soup for starters and I had chicken breast and mushroom sauce and he had John Dory with onion sauce. Veg were beautifully presented, the potato in jacket but with tasty filling. Drinks were sangria for me and the inevitable beer for him.
We were too full for a dessert, but a complimentary amaretto and hierbas were very acceptable. The service from start to finish was top notch, and we wouldn't hesitate to go again. Well worth leaving the port for. Wonderful view if you ask for a window table.

lollipop 22-05-2015 20:01

Tomorrow evening David Giverin ( Sax player) is playing at the restaurant. Worth a visit if you are around. Good food and good music.

Carol 22-05-2015 20:42

Great news that David is still in the port - is this a regular Saturday do you think? Certainly worth going for the food and music.

lollipop 25-05-2015 20:59

I believe Josep will have a different act each Saturday but will check with him when I see him.

Georgiebear 29-05-2015 21:15

Just on the balcony relaxing after an evening at Joseps, absolutely fantastic as always, have eaten far too much and the stroll back was much needed, a lovely evening for a 10 minute walk. Josep was the perfect host and the waiting staff attentive and polite, the saxophonist added to the pleasant atmosphere. First of a few visits this week and we wish Josep and his family every success in their new position.

lollipop 30-05-2015 20:01

Josep has asked me to let you all know that he is closed next Saturday 6th June for a wedding reception.

Golfaholics 30-05-2015 20:30

Ca'n Josep

We have just had a superb meal in Ca'n Josep's. It just gets better and better!! Er in doors had the Hake with asparagus n clams which was delicious and I had the Duck which was real melt in your mouth. Trying to decide what we're going to have next time is difficult - so many lovely ideas.
Can confirm closed next Saturday for a wedding.
The staff here are as superb as the food and if not relatives of Josep they are very close friends and it shows.
We are here for 3 weeks and we will definitely eat here at least a couple of times a week. Always our first night dinner!!
Brilliant food and atmosphere.

Sherberts 31-05-2015 09:48

Is the restaurant walkable? How long does it take from around the hotel romantic area? Thanks
