Ca'n Josep

We have just had dinner at the "new" Ca'n Josep. Wow!! Fabulous setting and great food as usual. Can understand why he moved which came as much of a shock to him as to everyone else!! He's going great. 90 for lunch yesterday and 40 already booked for next Sunday. It's now a real family affair with his godson, brother in law etc working there. As most forumites know Josep is the perfect mine host and deserves to be successful. We will be back in the summer.

I'm so pleased to hear that! We are looking forward to splendid food and company at Josep's in April, July and September and really wanted the family to succeed - clearly they are.

Ca'n Josep

You won't be disappointed. Same chef and most of the staff. Got given a conducted tour of the whole Restuarant including kitchens. Josep is very proud of what has been achieved and rightly so.

Well, we were quite disappointed. We are in PP right now. My husband has MS, and is depending on his servicedog. Under EU-law, servicedogs should be allowed even in restaurants,, equal to guidedogs. The dog is clearly marked in a vest, and is trained to lie quitely under the table, out of the way. But....we were not allowed in, and chose to find another place to eat. Had a wonderful meal in Los Faroles, where the dog was accepted, no questions asked. :-) Had very good service on Casinet as well. But no meals at Joseps, for us...

Sorry to hear this. Can only assume Josep is unaware of the regulations. He does read the Forum posts....hopefully will have a change of heart.

You know the saying once bitten twice shy.

What a shame Josep hope you make it up with these people.

That's dreadful especially as, unlike in the UK, most restaurants in Spain allow
pet dogs. I'm sure cd even posted about a baby goat in Stay a few years ago!! In this day and age it seems unbelievable that you would be turned away from a restaurant with a service dog

It seems to me that more and more eateries, particularly pubs, in the UK allow dogs in and I totally disagree with it. Why do some people insist on taking an animal into somewhere that serves food? Can't they leave them at home or in the car even?

This kind of dog though is obviously the exception to the rule.

Forgive my curiosity, Satori, but what function does a servicedog provide in a restaurant?

I think you are right and more places in the UK are allowing dogs inside to eat - in fact I encountered that this morning in Suffolk, where a very well-behaved labrador was sitting underneath a table in an establishment where it wasn't allowed a year ago, according to its owners.. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with it though, as long as the dogs are not barking or annoying other people. It's not a hygiene hazard - probably far less so than human patrons of the restaurant using the loo and not washing their hands - all the dogs are doing is sitting there on the floor, by and large minding their own business, so how is it worse than a child being there? Children are pretty grubby beings and frankly far more irritating in terms of noise levels (and I speak as someone that has two children).

Mojo is trained to (among a lot of other things) provide Tom with the safety and confidence, that: no matter what, - should he drop something, or even fall, should he get dizzy, or in any other way feel uncomfortable (as many MS sufferers do in public Places), -the dog is on the spot to relieve him from any stress of feeling (yet again) as a nuisance to everybody else.
And yes, I could propably do the same thing for Tom, but I am his wife, not his carer, and it is important to his selfesteem (spelled?), and to us as a couple, that he maintain his ability to do as much as possible without having to ask someone for help.
And the dog is trained, not to touch anything, unless he is asked to. At home he is helping Tom with the shopping in supermarkets, butcher, bakery etc. All this is allowed by law. :)

Of course the dog should be allowed in anywhere with Tom. I found while travelling to PP last year through France, our dog was allowed everywhere, even the expensive restaurants, she lay at our feet while we ate. The problem in the summer is you can't leave a dog in the car and most hotels don't want you to leave the dog unattended. Luckily, in PP you can dine outside with the dog but I was quite surprised at the number of bars with "no Perros" sign outside including Manolas which I thought quite strange as its more of a social club where people meet and socialise. Anyway, if they don't want the dog, they don't get me, ( some might say, they're lucky)
