Day 7 of Simon & Jonny's holiday

Here is the last instalment of my Trip Report.

Friday, Day 7, was the last full day of our holiday. There were two major things we did:

1. We hired a boat and sped around the bay, which was amazing and will be the subject of a post in watersports section, and

2. Had a simply fantastic meal at Stay, which is the main topic of this post.

On previous trips to PP we had eaten in Stay at lunchtime only because their snack menu is incredibly child friendly, as well very good value. We had never eaten there in the evening because their evening menu isn't child friendly and I knew that Jonny wouldn't eat anything.

However, thanks to a thread on here about Stay where people pointed out that Stay will happily cook something off the snack menu for kids, we decided to give it a try this year. And I am so pleased we did because for both of us it was the highlight of the holiday. I would even go so far as to say it was the best meal I've ever had.

The service at lunchtimes is special but at night it is even better. Almost as soon as we had sat down the maitre d' came to our table and told Jonny he could have either fish and chips, chicken nuggets or spag bol. Which reassured both of us that J would have something he liked.

So, here are some photos of the food.

First up was an amuse bouche of a absolutely delicious tuna dish.

Next was some lovely, hot out of the oven bread rolls with some melba toasts and alioli.

I went for the Menu del Dia while Jonny went a la carte.

I had a starter while Jonny munched on some more bread. My starter was duck foie gras with riesling. I have a real ethical problem with foie gras and I really shouldn't eat it but it tastes amazing. And this was probably the best foie gras I'd ever tasted. It tasted so much of duck but was really smooth and creamy at the same time.

Next up, mains. Jonny chose fish and chips. He said the chips were the best he'd ever had.

I had grilled salmon with rice and herb cream sauce, which sounded a bit boring and simple but it was one of the best fish dishes I'd ever tasted.

The view from our table pretty special

To be continued...

Jonny actually ordered a relatively grown-up pudding, 3 types of chocolate ice cream. He loved it but couldn't eat it all. Once I'd finished my pud I helped him out and I confirm that it was lovely!

My pud was amazing. It was labelled as "special desert of the day". I asked my waiter what it would be and he jokingly told me that he couldn't tell me, it would be a surprise. I was happy with a surprise but because I don't like nuts I asked him it contained any and he said if it did he would make sure they were removed.

What arrived was this:

It was kind of a vanilla slice crossed with a vanilla cheese cake and was amazing.

As part of the MDD I should have got free coffee. But because I don't like coffee the waiter suggested that I might like a brandy on the house instead. I thought about this for a millisecond and of course said yes. It was a lovely way to end the meal!

The most amazing thing about this meal was the cost - it only came to €54.90. Such good value for the amount and quality of food we received and the peerless service and location.

So, as you can tell, I thoroughly recommend Stay.

Oh that view!!! I'm really glad you and Jonny enjoyed Stay - it's such a special place to be - the perfect end to a holiday, except it makes it doubly hard to leave!
