8th Night: Just 3 of us for a quiet meal at Nico’s again. We know a lot of people only want to eat Mallorcan but for us the food and service here are good. In fact there was a large party of locals sitting along from us. We started with the favourite Roulette Wheel, followed by 2 x Quesadillas and a Utah Steak. Only room for 1 Apple Crumble and a coffee. A beer and a bottle of Anada Roble Tinto were much enjoyed tonight.
9th Night: A Full complement tonight so we had reserved a table at Los Faroles. Again we found the staff very friendly and helpful in explaining the different fish available. It was a bit of a highlight for some in our party when the fish barrow was rolled out. We started with Avocado Prawns, Prawn Cocktail, Garlic Prawns, Mozzarella with Tomato, and Fried Camembert (such a large portion!). Mains were John Dory, Sea Bass, Pork Medallions, Mussels Marinara and Monkfish & Prawns. Desserts were Baked Apple, 2 x Ice Creams, Strawberries with Cream and Chocolate Mousse. We had 2 x bottles of Es Nines tinto and a bottle of Rosado to compliment this good meal in pleasant surroundings.
10th Night: Back to
Cellar La Parra where we had again booked a table inside. This was a repeat of our previous enjoyable experience. Starters were 2 x Melon with Ham, 2 x Prawn Cocktail and Croquettes. Mains were: Shoulder of Lamb, Hake, Steak, Chicken in pepper sauce and Suckling Pig all accompanied with a hearty selection of vegetables. Three Desserts of Almond Cake and 2 x Ice creams. Again we had 2 x Jarra del a Casa tinto and 1 x Rosada. You will find it hard to get better value for money than this.
11th Night: We had reserved a table at
Stay. What a lovely setting as you look over the bay towards Alcudia, particularly when the sun disappears and the sky changes colours. We all decided on the Al a Carte menu, but the MDD at 34 Euros 90 is good value. Starters were; Fish soup, 2 x Shrimp soup, Tagliatelle with Prawns (a meal in itself!) and Garlic Prawns. Mains were 2 x John Dory with brown onions, Guinea Fowl, Turbot, and Scallops. Desserts were Ice Cream with raspberry sauce, Tarte crème brulee and a chocolate mousse. Mrs G opted for a Calypso coffee to round off what was a really nice meal in a wonderful setting. Drinks tonight consisted of beers, 2 x bottle Mortixt and sparkling water.
12th Night: We returned to O’Lume again having booked a table. There must be very few settings as tranquil as that in the garden at O’Lume. Jaime was attentive as ever, but never obtrusive. Starters were 3 x Ravioli with truffles, Garlic Prawns and Scallops Galicia. Mains were: Chicken breast with pepper sauce, 2 x Duck with raisins and port sauce, T-bone steak (1/2), and Sea bass baked in salt. Desserts: Mixed sorbets, Coconut crème caramel, and a selection of cheese. Drinks were 2 x bottles of Montenegro tinto and sparkling water. The duck and sea bass dishes were voted the best mains of the holiday.
We dined earlier tonight as we went on to hear John Lynam. It was the evening of the thunderstorm and while we avoided getting soaked, it was credit to John that he continued with his fine performance under a couple of umbrellas. Although there were some concerns about the rain and the electrical equipment! It is worth seeing/ listening to John.
13th Night: Back to
El Posito, having earlier reserved a table when we had the good fortune to bump into Sparky and Colin again.
We were interested to see if we would have as an enjoyable evening as on our previous visit. Well it was surpassed! An excellent meal in a great atmosphere! Starters were Stuffed red peppers, Squid in batter, 2 x croquettes, and Serrano ham. Mains were: 3 x Shoulder of Lamb, John Dory with crispy onions, and Duck. All served with a selection of vegetables. Those who could manage dessert had Mandarin sorbet, Crepe, and Almond cake. This was all washed down with beers, 2 x bottles of Es Nines, 2 x glasses of rose and sparkling water. This was a great night and we were well looked after by Toni and his team.
Later that evening we met Maureen and Kenny (ex- Citrus) and had a great night in Bar Osteria. It was a jazz night and special mention must be made of the waitress (Tiff) who sang as good as Amy Winehouse! We rolled home well into the morning!!
14th (Last) Night: It was decided to return to Iru for our last night. It is such a great location. Starters were: Risotto with truffles, Roasted Vegetables with Goats cheese, 2 x Fish soup, and the favourite Caesar salad. Mains were Tagliattelle with Amatraciana sauce, Mozzarella Raviolis, 2 x Lobster and Prawn Raviolis, Sole in saffron sauce. Only 2 x Desserts; Sorbets and a Crème brulee. Drinks tonight were a couple of beers, a bottle of Mortixt and a bottle of sparkling water. Again the staff were friendly and professional. We were treated to a spectacular pink/red moon (It looked just like Mr G’s face!) as it rose behind the mountains on the far side of the bay. For us there is probably no better way to end the holiday.
A big thank you to the restaurants and bars which sponsored the firework display. A memorable night!
Roll on next year!
