Default Ca'n Tanqueros or Los Tanqueros?

Met a couple this afternoon , hadn't seen them in years and just back from a week's holiday.

You guessed it , yes PP, and loved it , first timers.

Remembered she was a hard one to please and she raved about all the restaurants so that was a surprise. Mentioned a few names we all know but a new place recently opened, Ca'n Tanqueros or Los Tanqueros not sure.

I didn't know it . Couldn't quite describe where but said near the market place, which I suppose is the Square.

Mallorquin food which they tried and authentic they said. But would they know?:rolleyes

We have lots of people always willing to try a new place and so fussy that service etc is just right. Someone like to try and tell?

Sounds just the place for some of our regulars!

Some name though!

Ca'n Tanqueros:rollin :rollin :rollin

Hello everyone,

The Spanish word "tanque" has several meanings. It can mean the obvious, a tank, as used by the military; a tank which holds liquids; or, and probably more pertinent to us lot, a large drinking glass, particulary for drinking beer. From this noun, the word tanqueros probly means, "those who drink from large glasses. Count me in!.

Keep happy, Brian.

Default Ca'n Tanqueros or Los Tanqueros

Hi Brian!

Yes! Beer or wine in large glasses sounds good.

Tanqueros means a few different things. In the Spanish speaking part of the southern USA and in Central America it means the large road tankers carrying fresh water. These can be seen in Majorca too delivering to homes and restaurants etc.

So perhaps whoever has this new place is in that line of business.

Also the word can mean large seagoing oil tankers so maybe the place has a "Maritime" theme and signals a career change by perhaps a Captain? Who knows?

I always like to hear of a new place with good Majorcan cooking but I wish someone would try it and tell us.

Every weekend brings a new influx and there are even some of our regulars going this week.

And just as a little post script. It may be in one of those small units under the apartments behind the church.

As you go up on the left past the church there is a small deli shop with a wonderful range of Serrano hams , other meats , olive and other oils and lots more.
Great if you are in to home cooking !
Surely someone been in it??

Default Ca'n Tanqueros.......

Snowy, it's an interesting site. At first I thought the words 'tanque' and 'jamo' meant "tanked up jambo" (which is a rare siight indeed!). I intend perusing further into the many interesting topics. Thanks.
