The wizard of Alcudia!!!.
Follow the yellow brick road or in this case it should be follow the blue brick road. The council have spent mega bucks on the beach path by laying tarmac over the paving and it's bright BLUE, this is causing a lot of controversy, so it's not just the Pollenca council who make silly decisions then . Here are a couple of photos i uploaded from the net.

Lots of discussions about this on other forums and social sites. None of it positive. Tacky appears to be the word of the moment! As they say, no publicity is bad publicity though, perhaps people will come for miles just to see it!

Are we sure that this isn´t the transition area for the Ironman change from swim to bike? That is usually blue.

It cost over a quarter of a million euros.........that would be one hell of an expensive transition area .

Tarmac OVER paving doesn't sound good in the long term!
Tarmac INSTEAD of paving 'could' possibly last a little longer.
Continental style brick paving may have been a far better option, but I don't
think they come in 'bright blue' - unless a large tin of paint was spilled by any chance!
The idea of the expensive 'Transition Area' sounds the best of all.

Not surprisingly still a hot topic of debate, among all the local political parties, of which there are many, this quote from one today
The officer believes that "it is a horrific attack on the image of Mallorca, with an asphalting of electric blue that makes damage to eyesight". Alorda adds that "not only should indignant to many alcudiencs but also to the rest of Majorcans as it affects one of the emblematic bays of our island

The environmental group GOB have denounced the council to the Costas, it questions whether they had permission to do this. The full story is here, El GOB denuncia en Costas el asfaltado del paseo de la playa - Diario de Mallorca.
PC The GOB filed yesterday a complaint with the Coastal asphalting works for the ride to the beach in Alcudia. This is a ride that until now was a journey made with sandstone and situated between the beach and the first urban plots.
GOB maintains that "the paving of this walk involves the radical transformation of this place, which happens to contain traditional material such as sandstone, to be composed of an unsuitable material for this place, generating a particularly negative impact and reprehensible. "
Moreover, the environmental group is not aware that this ride has the corresponding grant the Coastal and therefore opted for the complaint.
coalition also Mes per Mallorca has initiated proceedings. Deputy Alorda Antoni said yesterday to this newspaper that requested the file of the City of Alcúdia works "for a detailed study of the same, as well as relevant authorization Costs."
Responsible nationalist view that "it is an attack ghastly image of Mallorca, with electric blue asphalt hurtful sight ". Alorda adds that "not only should enrage many alcudiencs but also the rest of Mallorca it affects one of the bays emblematic of our island."

This does look pretty awful doesn't it and so much money too! I'm sure we will hear much more about this as time goes on.
Personally I think it is yek and tacky but some might like it. I just wonder if after the initial yek passes and we get used to it perhaps more might like it?
Change always brings reaction and this certainly is a change! The colour approach is quite common in some parts of USA especially in some parts of South Carolina. It has been accepted as the norm.
I remember when modern architecture of houses introduced the block effect at the time referred to as lego houses. People were very upset but now these can be seen in many places on the island including a couple which come to mind in Llenaire. Not pleasing to the eye at first for many but now not given a second thought.
It will be interesting to see what happens here. I can't help but wonder if the person giving the directive may have needed a quick trip to Specsavers or perhaps wanted to simply make his/her mark.
