Default where in Alcudia

Having stayed in Pollenca for the last two years, I thought about Alcudia.
We usually book a package holiday, as we don`t have the option to drive. When we have been through Alcudia it looks rather built up and all huge hotels.
Is there any part of it that is "nicer" and with smaller accommodation.

Also what is the beach like there, I do like to swim "safely" in the sea.

Thanks

Hi Wilcoxon i can't really comment on Alcudia as i have never stayed there but do have a look at our sister website here :- Holidays Travel Alcudia, Majorca (Mallorca), i am sure you will get some good info from other members on here as well .

Best thing in Alcudia is the bus to PP ...

I don't think you can compare the Alcudia beach with PP. Been there once and decided it's not for me. 'Concrete'-like sand(?), water hip-height for quite some distance and pedalos crossing in the 'swim'-section.

From a budget point of view I'd stay in Alcudia if I wouldn't find something suitable in PP, but spend most of my day in PP. The package holidays to PP can be quite expensive, but I think I'd rather stay in cheaper place in PP given the choice.

I could not agree more, the beauty of PP is that it is so close to so many different places.

It is probably worth mentioning that there are really three distinct parts to Alcudia -The walled town, the port and the long "strip" of hotels that leads down towards Can Picafort.

Personally, I think that the walled town is beautiful, with lots of small hotels.

The port has quite a number of larger hotel and apartments but has much more of a holiday feel about it.

Finally, there is the long strip of hotels that run down along the road to Can Picafort - Where the very big properties you refer to are located.

If you wish to swim, and to have easy access to public transport, I would say consider the port area, but as others have said, it is a very different place to stay than Pollensa.

We love eating in Alcudia old town and going to the market, and we often will go to the port area for a meal, but only as part of a stay in Pollensa.

That I think is the crux of it - It is nice to visit, but Pollensa is a better place to be staying.

I agree that the old town is beautiful but to be honest even there it has a very different 'feel' to PP - with many of the restaurant owners waving menus in your face and trying to entice you into their establishments - it's much more blatant than PP, and so I always feel less relaxed when in Alcudia. There are some great places to eat however but I wouldn't personally choose to stay there.

Port D'Alcudia certainly has a more tourisity and buzzy feel than PP. Much more for younger families or teenage groups to let their hair down! Some interesting restaurants, but far more fast food restaurants. Good for a day out with children, but its lovely to come back to PP to calm back down!

Whilst we prefer PP we have to say that Port Alcudia and old Alcudia town are a favourite of ours.

Not quite sure where you mean Belladonna. I don't know of anywhere in the Port where teenagers can let their hair down. It is all family restaurants.

It is a personal thing, but for me Alcudia beats PP every time.

Great beach with safe swimming. I agree the Port end of the beach is not as good, being man made, but this is only for about 200m and then the rest of the 11km is great

Beautiful old town.

Some really good restaurants.....

.....and dare I say it ... no grubby back streets!
