Wheelchair friendly restaurants
Hello. Can anyone tell me please if most of the restaurants are accessible to a wheelchair user? Would it be best to make arrangements prior to turning up?
Thanks |
Hi, If you take a look in the Restaurant section of the forum/website, there is a list of advertisements. Some have links to their websites, which may be your first port of call until someone comes along to give suggestions. A lot of retaurants have tables outside if that's an option, but I'm not sure about facilities such as loos.

I'm pretty sure that IRU advertises themselves as being wheelchair-friendly - see puertopollensa.com/restaurants_bars_cafes.html#iru - am not sure about others.

Can Josep is wheelchair friendly...as well as ample seeting outside it also has a ramp to get inside.
|
I was thinking about Can Josep funnily enough. I remember someone using the outside tables. I'm trying to remember the loos though. A bit of a tight squeeze for a chair to get in the normal loos and I really can't remember if they have a designated loo.
Not much help really, sorry. |
I think the vast majority are wheelchair friendly but the toilets are another matter, some of them are cramped even for the able bodied but in Nostalgia the ladies is also fully equipped for the disabled.

We have been to pp a couple of times and my husband is a full time wheelchair user. We bever gad a problem getting into most restuarants but we have noticed a lack of disabled toilets althouth he is usually fortunate enough not to have to need them. I am sure you will have a fabulous time.

I know this has been asked but thought as there had been quite a few changes I may get some up to date answers.
My friend is going to PP in June, she will be mainly in the wheelchair but can walk a short distance with her sticks. My question is which restaurants/bars are suitable? For example, she can get to a toilet door in the wheelchair (sports, so smaller) & use sticks to actually get into the loo but obviously places with steps are a no-no. Can anyone suggest places that are ok & maybe warn of places that are definite no-go areas? I like to think I know PP quite well but ashamed to say, when you think from a wheelchair/sticks point of view it gets a bit more challenging. Any suggestions will be very welcome. Thanks x |
Hi Cheryl,
Circulo Cultural now have a proper wheelchair friendly/disabled toilet.:) Nostalgia always did but it used to be a bit awkward to get through their terrace to reach the ramped entrance as there was a lamp post in the way, however that has now been moved so access is fine now:D. |
Thanks Sparky, good to know especially on market day. :)

Hiya cherylbb,
Traveling with my Dad in a wheelchair with very limited mobility, yes - loos can be a wee bit tricky but I usually do a quick reccy before actually eating/drinking in a new place cos tho there maybe d/a access to the restaurant/bar, sometimes the loos are another matter altogether. So if ur friend has an escort then tell them to check first. I have always found that the staff in premises are really helpful ( cept in PALMA but we wont go there ! ) Hope she has a great holiday ! Thanks very much Miriam. Yes, her daughter will be with her & so will be doing the reccy as she does in this country, out of necessity too! Good to hear the staff are helpful, it all helps. Hope you & your Dad have a nice time too.

Very important 'topic' this, especially for those who really need the facilities. Perhaps we ought to start a definitive list of disabled loos in the Port be they provided by the Local Authority, the Supermarkets or other shops, Bars, Restaurants, Hotels, Etc.
So to anyone who knows of good facilities for wheelchair users, let us have them recorded on here - accurately. In this country there are 'accepted standards' for the provision of good disabled facilities. We are in Europe (like it or not), it should be the same throughout the EEC - but I bet it isn't! No shame on those that haven't got them yet, but let us Know who have got them, it is very important to those in need. No.1 Lets start with Circulo Cultural (formerly Bar Cultural) in the market place. Thanks for this one Lynn. |
Your wish is my command, i have started a new thread here:- http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/...acilities.html
