At sherry...
Whilst at the Wine & Spirits Fair the other week, I tried some delicious sherry.
I'm not talking about the sweet brown stuff, I'm talking about Manzanilla, Fino and Amontillado.
In his Saturday Mail column today, Matthew Jukes was raving about a Manzanilla that would be perfect chilled and accompanied by olives, nuts, salami and chorizo.
It was La Gitana, Bodegas Hidalgo, Sanlucar de Barrameda and is priced at £6.99 from Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Majestic.
He thinks it's "...one of the best wines on the planet."
I did post something on here about sherry ages ago, but just to re-cap:
Manzanilla (or Fino) is the lightest and driest of the sherries, with a delicate fresh yeasty flavour
Amontillado used to be a Fino but has spent longer in the solera (sherry ageing system) and has developed a darker colour and more robust aroma.
Cheers!
