Can anyone tell me if it is possible to walk to Castell del Ray, as I believe the road to Ternelles is now closed. Any details would be appreciated

Mallorca Boy, almost 4 years after your original request . . . . you may have already found out the up to date info regarding the walk to Castell del Rey. However, just in case you have not and for benefit of others. There have been lots of meetings and discussions and a final decision has not yet been reached but it seems that the walk will shortly be re-opened to the public. There will, however, be conditions. A maximum of 20 persons a day will be given permission to take the walk. It is likely that permission will have to be applied for in advance to the town hall . . . . anyhow, I shall post again when a final and clear decision has been reached (and that the town hall share the information!)but there is hope . . . . .:)

It would be fantastic to be able to walk this route as we never did manage to get to do this route on a Sunday (when walkers were allowed through) before the walk was finally closed.

Please let us know any updates JMD40.

Where / What is Castell del Ray ?

Delighted to find I havn;t got a clue what/where you are talking about, after visiting PP for so many years, it really cheers me up to find new things

So what is it that I have been missing ?

Here is a description but as mentioned above, the walk is not currently open:

CASTELL DEL REI *
The hike to this remote mountain castle, 7km north of Pollenca, is one of the most popular in Mallorca; it gets particularly crowded because of the limited hours. The castle is on a large private estate and it is only open to visitors on Saturday. Walk from Pollenca to avoid parking problems; allow at least five hours for the round trip. You get there by taking the small country road to Ternelles opposite Pollenca's Roman bridge; stay on this road until it ends at the gate to the estate. The walk then climbs gently through a cool pine forest, eventually reaching the castle, 490m above sea level. Founded by the Moors and strengthened by Jaume I, this was the last fortress to surrender to Pedro of Aragon when the brief-lived kingdom of Mallorca came to an end. It has been abandoned since 1715 and would be terribly romantic if it were not for the crowds.

Castell del Rei walk

Can anybody out there tell me if this route is still closed?

Re: Castell del Rei walk

A friend of mine organised a walk to Castell del Rei last year. She told me you had to have a residencia card (i.e. be a resident) and arrange access first.

Thre seems to have been more activity again to try and get the public right of way re-opened. See article in Mallorca Daily Bulletin:

JMD40, have you heard any updates on the Ternelles walk?
