anyone any ideas why the gate was locked today? we went over early this morning but found the gate securely locked when we came back about two oclock
Had to climb over (not easily done) the spiky gate people were stuck both sides .
need to pack bolt cutters instead of walking poles LOL.

Oh no! What a shame. Never known it to be locked. There is another way back via El Vila, documented in some Mallorcan walking books but that route doesn't look straightforward.
Let's hope it's not permanent, that walk is very popular.

The route back via El Vilar is a different kettle of fish campared with the well defined main track. You have to climb and cross the Serra de la Punta ridge, it's fairly tough and not well defined: have a look here: Puerto Pollença - Cala San Vicenç - Serra de la Punta

The map at the beginning shows the way (28ext), but also indicates another option via "Duva", which I'm certain doesn't exist. If you scroll to the end of this hike in the link you get some idea of the route up to the ridge, and the terrain, but the route detailed here doesn't cover this route specifically.

For more Mallorca hiking options check out the main hiking blog

I noticed the wooden sign has also been removed.

Is that not where there is the sign warning about hunting and access restrictions at some times of the year?
