cala san vicente

Hi, as you may gather from my user id i live in the cala and i thought it might be good if i could keep you informed of whats happening in the village.
The Windsurfer has been open for business all winter and the Bar Mallorca overlooking Mollins beach has been open a couple of weeks now.The cyclists are forever crowding in there.
Just around the corner Balaxia and L'Alba are open for business, as is Modesto.
The only hotel open is the Cala San vicente. No shops open yet but major clean ups going on at most of them and also the other bars.The Trotters bar is changing to an Irish bar and will probably be the only Irish bar in Mallorca actually run by an Irishman.Nothing happening across the road at cafe 66 but the minigolf is being painted and looks like it will open any day now.
The beaches are quite clean but no signs of umbrellas or sun beds as yet. Seen a few brave souls paddling lately although the sun has been quite warm if you are out of the wind.
Hope you like this idea, if I hear any more on the village will let you know.

Thanks for the posting, it is a good idea, we always try to get around to the Cala at least once when we are in PP, we enjoy walking over from PP, enjoying a nice drink before heading back, also we hire one of the pedalos from the beach we prefer it to the main beach. Your report brought it all into mind with the places you mentioned getting ready for the season, I cant wait till August you are so lucky to live there, really jealous, keep up the reports.

We love CSV - especially the view from the Bar Mallorca. We try to get there as early in our holiday as we can and will be visiting lots when we go in August.

Any info on restaurants always gratefully recieved!

Cala how lucky you are to live in CSV I'm really jealous!! Its our favourite part of the Island.We will be there in September staying at the Don Pedro. Perhaps you can help us with a bit of information. Do you know what is happening to the Hotel Mayol? Its been shut for so long now and we keep hearing conflicting rumours. Hope the new people make a go of Trotters, they will be the third "landlords" we have known.
We often have a drink/meal at La Marinas, are they going to open this year?
Our first hotel that we stayed in was the Hotel Nui when the owner was Sr. Gomez and Juan, the manager was just a waiter.
Speaking of trotters, do you know who owns the apartments up the road from the bar, it used to be open villas.

Thanks for the news of CSV, I wish I lived there too. Just wondered if the building work has started up opposite Los Pinos that a few people were talking about last year, we heard that there was going to be an apartment block and some villas built on the empty land next to the restaurant and the torrent.

joelise80, do you mean the piece of wasteland next to the L'Alba restaurant? Will be a shame if it is as we like to sit on the terrace of L'Alba and watch the world go by.

Not sure which restaurant is L Alba, is it the one with the yellow awnings and the big dog, at the back of the car park? If so it is opposite this on the piece of land next to another restaurant. We usually stay in the Botana villas but have booked to stay in PP this year for various reasons including the building work. It would be a shame to spoil the resort of CSV but we have been going for 10 years and feel that it is 'struggling' to keep going, especially on a night when visitors to the beach have gone back to their resorts.

Many thanks for your encouragement with this thread, I will try to answer as much as I can. Today I noticed that the beach bar on cala mollins is open and there is a lot of activity at the mollins hotel.
The Pins Altos villas up the road from Trotters (the Irish Pub) are about to open and they belong to Portvil a small rental company opposite the Pizzaria near the bank.
The hotel Mayol has been taken over(rumour has it) and on two occasions I have seen workmen there, not doing too much , but I belive they hope to turn it into a spa hotel maybe 5 star, but not until next year
In the meantime the building work is going on opposite Lalba and I was told they would be 8 villas there on two levels, but it looks quite tidy for a boulding site.
On the other side of Pepe's bar they have demolished a villa and are building a block of apartments there.
I take on board what you say about the village dying when the people leave the beach, and it never used to be that way.Alot of the problems have been caused by all inclusive, as before the holidaymakers came out of their hotels to look around and give each bar in turn a try for food or a drink. Now they all stay put in their hotels and the bars and restaurants are only scraping by, some we have already lost, and that is such a shame.
Maybe a few more apartments will mean more people and better bars etc.

We had a good night in Trotters when the tour reps from Don Pedro brought a big group in for a quiz, it was just like it should be. The rest of the week was dead though and it was during May half term. I was so dissapointed when Tolo's closed as we used to go there the most. If it wasn't for the mini golf and their internet access I think we would have stopped holidaying there a few years earlier as our teenagers love CSV but asked to stay in PP this year where there is more for them to do. I hope that in a few years I will be able to return to holidaying in CSV minus teenagers as I always feel like I am 'home' when I am there. Anyway please keep us up to date Cala San,as any news reminds me of happy times in a lovely place.

thanks for the update, hope they don't do too much building in cala. We are staying at the Don Pedro in September, not out of choice but its one we can afford as it will be our third holiday of the year and our second in Majorca!!
Talking of Trotters, we stayed at the Simar in 2005 and had a wonderful day, I do mean day watching England win the Ashes. Got there about 11am, left at 7pm, didn't drink all day had our lunch there and snacks in the afternoon. Happy days!!
On reading this back I don't mean to be critical of the Don Pedro as it will be our first time there. Its just that we don't usually go all inclusive.

CSV update

My Mum and Dad were in CSV last week, said plenty of cyclists about but they were the only car in Cala Mollins car park for most of the morning. They said it reminded them of our east coast on a blowy day, not the Med! They too thought CSV looked a bit run down but put it down to the time of year and being a bit battered by the winter winds. Building work going on but nothing too noisy etc.

Just had a tour around the village andspoke to Tomas from Marinas and his sister Joanna, they opened today. Hurrah!
Also on reading my previous reports I omitted the fact that we have a permanent chemist who has stayed open all winter. He is on the same road as Mollins virtually next door to hostal Mayol.He speaks perfect english and is very helpful.
There are workmen in the Hotel Simar although it isnt due to open until May 1 .
Supermarket Gabriel is still closed but the lights are on inside, so maybe that will open soon.
Many people on the beach area by cafe mollins, it has been sunny and a little windy with some cloud.
The mini golf by the bus stop was open, but the pizza place next door to it still has paper at the windows, and the Irish bar is still only half painted.Will let you know when the next major opening happens

thanks for the update. Glad to hear that Tomas is still there. We have had many nice lunches there and sometimes just a drink but you are always made welcome.
Any news on the hotel mayol?

cala san, is there any building work going on next to Marinas? We had heard that the cafe/bar there had closed and building work had begun. Is this correct?

There has been building work going on next to Marinas for over a year now, It's the old Tolos Bar site. They are building apartments there but in the season they are not allowed to build so Marinas is up and runing as normal. Did notice a to rent sign on the apartments although they are nowhere near ready for habitation.
They are now also digging out for two villas next to hotel oriola on the bottom road and the noise as been going on for over a week now. Hope it will stop soon, it interferes with the peaceful village life.
No sign of anywhere else opening yet, although they are cleaning at the 2 supermarkets.
Also the shops under the Hotel mollins are open, and the beach today was very busy, with sun beds out and sunshades.Was in the Port the other day and there were no sunbeds on the beach there. but I expect it's only a matter of time now.
All the buses have been running the summer service all winter, but have not had many takers.If only the hotels would follow there example our village would be a thriving place instead of a ghost town

cala update

Hi all,
Well today is very windy and quite cold, virtually no sun and very dull.( 1pm just started to drizzle)
The two villas being built on the main road going down towards Cala Barques are finished and look great, but they have now started to build on the corner plot on the road leading to Hotel Cala Sant Vicenc.
The beach bar and restraunts at Cala Barques don't appear to be open yet, but I saw Juan and Nicholas from Hotel Nui the other day, they are sprucing everything up ready for opening. The Boards are still on the windows of Don Pedro but the painters have been dollying up around the pool and terrace of the Simar.The spar shop is undergoing a clean up and Gabrielles supermarket has been having deliveries and all the racking painted ready for the season. Souvenirs Maria, (next door) is up for rent and the little shop selling diving goggles and related stuff across the road has closed down. The paper shop is not yet open but I noticed Motos Formentor are open and in business.( by the way they will leave you a car at the airport for you to collect so if you have problems with it this end of the island its easy to get fixed). The pizza restaurant still showing no signs of life.
Minigolf is open but very quiet. Cafe 66 looks exactly the same as all winter with major clean up necessary. Across the road the Irishman is still painting away but it is looking better.
Around at mollins bay the shops are open, the sea is amazingly calm considering the winds we have had over the last few days.Bar Majorca on the car park is open, except on Sundays, as is the chemist up the side road.
The tobacco shop is closed and up for rent(don't know what happened there). Nothing new happened at Mayol, it could be later this year before we see anything there.
Pepe's still has no sign of life, the bistro next door is open as is L'alba across the road. The building work is progressing well with first floors being put in. Two great big holes have appeared next to the Oriola ready for the next building work.The Modesto seems to be open but just at night time.This is the latest news from the cala.
