Default Chip and Pin?

Hi all - we're visiting PP for the first time in a couple of years, can anyone advise whether shops and restaurants now use the chip and pin method for card payments or whether it is still all signature based?

The reason being I can't be sure whether I know the PIN number for the card I will be using and it is too late to order a replacement so I'll be OK if I can still use signatures but may be stuffed if I need the PIN!

Thanks

May be wrong in this but I thought everywhere used chip and pin now!! I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though You may be better using cash just in case you get caught out

I am afraid Ragdollabbi is correct, just about everywhere now do C&P so you may struggle to use your card....sorry .

If you are not sure if you can remember the number, I'd go to a cash card machine, select the PIN option and try the number you think it is......with any luck, you'll be fine.

You should be able to get a readvice of your number from your bank within days You can then go to a machine and change the number if you wish

Certainly everyone uses chip and pin nowadays unless their machine breaks and they have to get out the old slide ones !

Yes, you should at least try phoning your bank to see if they can help you. Depends on when you leave for holiday, they may manage to get another pin out to you before then. Can I just ask....how do you manage normally at home if you don't use chip and pin....just curious

At most supermarkets you will also need to show ID - UK driving licence or passport.

Alcampo supermarket is unique in that you have to show passport. UK driving licence is not acceptable there.

Be careful doing this. After a number of attempts (usually 3, but it may vary) the machine will swallow up your card if the number is not correct
