Unhappy Storm damage on the Pine Walk!!!!

It is now impossible to walk on one part of the Pine Walk because of the damage recent storms have done, lets hope the Costas get their act together and get it repaired soon, i love trees and it's so sad to see this .

That must have been some storm to uproot those pines from the paved pathway - and it is sad to see them lying there after being part of Pine Walk for so long.

This is sad and each year we see more trees disappear. Having been around for so long too! It was bad enough to see the pines go due to the beetle but heck that must have been some storm to uproot those big trees.

Oh dear ...... We thought these 2 were probably beyond saving when we were over last month

We also got to wondering why there seems to have been so mant pine trees lost to storms over the past 10 years ..... I am pretty sure I remember the sis pins when there really were sis pins.

These trees have stood for over a centuary ..... So what as changed ? Are they not being well managed? Let to grow too high? Are they affected by building work or by extra people taking up valuable water ? Climate change?

I would love to know..... Any experts out there?

Oh dear, what a shame! That's really sad to see. Not quite sure how far up Pine Walk they are.....is it on the stretch leading up to the wall and phone box where the path narrows down to the I'lla D'or etc??

They are past the wall dogleg which leads into the narrow stretch up to the Illa Dor. A really pretty walk, hope they can save some of the trees now, although I think they have left it too late.

cd, unfortunately you can do nothing about the height of pine trees, they need cleaning from the bottom otherwise they grow out width ways making the trees even more top heavy. I suspect the problem is the wave action on the root system as the water comes in under the walk.

Many of the Pine trees have been at a 'crazy - but wonderful - angle' for many, many years. They are so serene and have been painted by many an artist as well as being photographed on enumerable occasions. As they have grown so has the vast weight in the long branches and it is more likely that this sheer weight has led to their downfall in the recent very strong winds, than any wave action??? under the Pine Walk!!!

Pescador if you look over the edge of the wall you will see that in several areas there is a distinct lack of support for the pinewalk where the waves have eroded the wall.

Were the trees originally on the beach, and the pine walk built up around them, I `ve always wondered that when walking down there.

Hopefully we will be back again next year.
