Smile How long have you been visiting?

Hmm. So far I can't see anyone that has been as long as I have. I first visited Puerto Pollensa 49 years ago (1961) with my grandparents, parents + 2 brothers. There was a feeling of having discovered it at that time. We returned almost every year for 15 years or so. Then I met my husband-to-be and we went together. Then 3 children came along and they went too, so they are 4th generation Puerto Pollensa fans. Within another 5 years or so i suspect there will be a 5th generation going.

We are just back from our July 2010 Puerto holiday with all the family and some friends. I suspect they get a little sick of me saying "I remember when......". Yes I have old photos, and recently we had 35mm film put onto DVD so I have some amazing shots.
  • The Corb Mari being almost the end of the village
  • the single track road outside Hotel Uyal, but piles of stones to make it double track
  • Cart being pulled by donkey on the main road
  • no sandy beach just the concrete piers into the sea
  • Cala San Vincente with not a soul on the beach
Hotel Uyal and Pollentia before they were extended

It is quite incredible how the village has grown over 50 years.

I'm not sure where best to upload them. Here? Flickr? I would love to share some of the shots, so I'll see what I can do.

We are most certainly a couple of 'newcomers' to Puerto Pollensa, having first visited Mallorca and Puerto Pollensa in October 2006. We were regulars to Menorca for about 15 years prior to that. We still love Menorca, although have not been there since July 2006....a 4 year break!!!! Since 2006 we have visited the Port 5 times so something must be drawing us back!! Our first impression was that it was 'nice' but not the same as Menorca, but I think that over the years (albeit only a few) it has certainly grown on us and at this minute in time I wish I was back. We were there in July and if flight prices would come down just a bit we just might think about returning in October. First time we visted it was a package (Flora Apts) but since then we have stayed in an apartment in Pinaret and love it. Anybody there just now.....have a drink at Illa D'or for me.....love it!!!

We started coming to PP in 1987 and have not missed a year since! Try other places as well but always come back "home" each year.
There is a great page on Facebook
FOTOS ANTIGUES DE POLLENÇA
which has lots of very old photos of the area. The person who set it up seems to welcome input from everyone.

Ok have uploaded around 80 pictures to Flickr and made them public, so hopefully you can all see the folder. there are quite a few beaches I can't identify, so anyone that can help please post comments. I think I recognise Puerto Soller, and probably Paguera.

Oh, how wonderful these photos are. This is just our 3rd visit this year and I honestly cant recognise anything. Its amazing how you can fall in love with a place even though you dont really know it, PP just has the charm and long may it retain it. At 41 this year (although dont look a day over 40) I truely hope we are fotunate enough to have as many visits as you and I now have a real excuse to not eat and drink as much and explore a bit more of the place. Fantastic photo's.

many thanks for sharing them

Brilliant beadnut - these bring back so many memories - I will comment on some when I can find my flikr login.

Some are of Porto Cristo - you have Soller right - I think some may be of Alaro.

You have definately spurned me on to get more of my dads slides on to digital - he also has a load of cine - whats the best way to convert those?

Happy memories - oh - one of the is a picture of the little restaurant on the Pine Walk that no one can remember the name of I think.

And great to see one of the real start of the Pine Walk as it was then - where Corb Mari is now. Can anyone remember what it was called before it was CM?
