Default Children throwing firecrackers

Local children/teenagers have been throwing seriously loud firecrackers in the playground by the square for the last three days now. They just laugh in your face if you ask them to stop. It is awful and what with the bus situation here it is dreadful. Normally Spanish kids are quite respectful but why aren't the authorities doing something about it.

It is ruining our holiday along with constant noise and fumes from the buses and whilst this is only temporary my other half says he doesn't want to come anymore, after 13 years. It just isnt the same anymore

Update - we tried police station but nobody around but they have just come and confiscated them but we think the older boys have hidden theirs somewhere

What a shame! But don't give up.....it's the latest stupid fad and I bet it will pass. Next time you come (and you must!) they will have lost interest in that stupid behaviour and the buses will be elsewhere.

I do hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Thanks Disorderly but honestly, 3 days and evenings of this so loud that we thought it sounded like gunshots is not fun. The buses are awful but only temporary but frankly none of this is conducive to a relaxing holiday.and awful for residents and businesses.

The kids just ignored the police and the bus company just ignore the drivers not following the rules.

Apparently they can fine the drivers so why don't they. It is quite depressing. There are lots of police wandering around but don't seem to deal with anything this year. The looky looky men are more than ever this year and we know the background to this racket. I wish we had as many police on our streets at home - they do here but what do they actually do?

Why don't you stay in a quieter part of the Port, there are some very nice areas in Pinaret, Llenaire, Gommar Siller, Boquer etc.

I know its handy being on the Square but noise of one sort or another is inevitable.

Good Luck

Bus drivers have been fined as have delivery drivers who park illegally causing chaos in the area, i have witnessed this myself.

As for the firecrackers, i suspect the kids have been letting them off to celebrate the fiesta of Sant Pere (Saint Peter) .

We alwAys stay in this area and wouldn't want to stay elsewhere . We love the hustle and bustle of the square and expect noise but this type of noise is not good when it could be avoided. We realised the firecrackers were for the fiesta but they got louder and louder over 3 days and evenings and we were surprised at the local kids attitude when people asked them to stop as they are normally great kids that play around here. Hopefully there will be no more today!

We noticed this in April - previously I'd heard firecrackers at Halloween but this was in the middle of the day and obviously not related to a party or any sort of celebration. Very strange, and disconcerting in a global climate where terrorist attacks in public places are becoming more and more common (I too thought it was gunfire at first and wondered for a second whether we should all be diving for cover).

Must be terrible to go to a European country and find all these boisterous young kids letting off steam during a festival.

Bet you can't wait to get back to British town centres where our angelic children behave themselves at weekends in such exemplary fashion.

Not being rude. Honest. Just the gentlest hint of irony?

It was rather more than that graham. One day and evening was fine but not 3 days and evenings. We come every year at this time and it has never gone on like this before. I think you will find this wouldn't be allowed at home anyway for even 10 minutes. However thank you for your opinion.

Still going on this Afternoon, very loud. Graham, which festival would these be celebrating please?

The fact that the police came a few days ago and confiscated some indicates that this is not acceptable once a festival is over

The fiesta of Virgen del Carmen starts at the end of this week, so firecrackers will be about again I'm afraid but also plenty to see and do.
