Default Huawei E220 USB Modem

Well here goes - MY FIRST POST!!

Hello to everyone on the forum.

To get to the point of this first post I have recently bought a Huawei E220 USB Modem which is unlocked to all networks.

Have read the excellent posts regarding the vodaphone shop in Pollensa Avenida Argentina. My question relates to other forum experiences regarding vodaphone shops on the island - if indeed there are any??

Would appreciate experiences from members using other vod shops on the island and where these are and the availability of english techy type personnel that can help me buy a spanish data packet simm card for my Huawei E220 USB Modem.

Sorry about the ramble but I have relatives in the Sol de Mallorca area near the casino who want to use my Huawei E220 USB Modem with a spanish data simm and don't want to travel up to Pollensa (a fair distance) but want to buy around the Sol de Mallorca area.

There doesn't seem to be a forum for this area have checked and yours seems to be the most informative.

Best regards to all the forum members and Mods - an excellent resource.

Firstly welcome to the forum redleather, i am sorry can't help you re other Vodafone shops but you could also try Movistar they do PAYG simcards and may have a shop closer than the Pollensa area. Hope this info is of some use to you.

There's quite a big Vodafone kiosk in Alcampo, just outside Palma, not sure if they speak English though.

Thanks Whaleywanderer,

I forgot about the one at AlCampo will give it a try.
Just to update everyone I have found a website www.fonpaq.com that sells these Spanish Data simms already loaded with credit for instant internet connection. Have e mailed them for more info and when received will share it with you all. It looks a good deal and you get it through the post prior to travelling to Mallorca.

Best Regards and thanks for the replies.

Sorry Whaleywanderer - there are now two sites
1.FONPAQ - mobile solutions for travellers
FONPAQ - weltweit günstig telefonieren!

The guys name is David Call (good name for a small telecommunications firm) and he is extremely clued up and really really helpful.
I have now purchased a Spanish Simm Data Card with 60 euros credit on it.
Will keep everyone updated on it's progress and ease of use.

Best regards
Whaleywanderer

I also have bought from Dr Call ( David Call) first found him on a forum here:
Getting 3G in Spain, without roaming charges? - 3G forum : your 3G community and resource.

also on ebay here:
eBay My World - drcall

If the modem that redleather has is unlocked it might not have the settings installed to work with a Spanish sim, David will send you the settings you might need to set up a data connection with Vodafone Spain ( is easy to do)

A USB modem bought in Spain is plug and play, a modem that is unlocked might not know which country it is from

Hi Mark,

Thanks for that it's good to know of someone else buying off David - he seems a really clued up chap.

My modem is a Huawei E220 bought in the UK and unlocked to any network.
When you say it's easy to set up when I am in Mallorca - How easy is easy??

Best Regards
redleather

PS
Just viewed your photographs on FLICKR they are absolutely superb. The framing and composition alone should merit a photographic prize of some sort. Maybe the owner of this forum should put up a competition with prizes perhaps from all the advertisers. JUST A THOUGHT?????

Hi Redleather

Just wondering if you managed to get your USB modem set up and working in Majorca & did you encounter any problems?
