Smile Rental for Next Year

Hi Everyone

I had a great holiday, and am now in process of booking next year - actually I have probably already committed for Crespi, on the road to Formentor. However, I would welcome any comments from Forum members as to the suitabiliity of this place - 5 adults, 3 kids - yes, taking the family,

I know that there shouldn't be any open criticism on the forum, so if you want to PM me, then feel free.

Regards to all

Thanks

Tangoman

Default Missing apartments

I'm a bit confused now that the adverts for private apartment rentals have gone. I've booked two apartments (one for Oct and one for 2016) that I found on here and I just wanted to check a couple of details for them but of course the adverts have gone now. I thought it would be a simple case of using the link to the HomeAway search to find them, but no joy. So I tried a general internet search but still nothing, it's like the apartments I've booked have totally disappeared from the internet which is worrying me a bit. Am I missing something obvious here?

This site no longer allows owners to advertise but if people who used to advertise now decide to advertise with a company called Home and Away Rentals then this site will provide a link to the new advert

The problem is that many of the people who used to advertise with this site do not want to advertise with Home and Away for various reasons - cost to advertise is a lot more expensive and also many owners I have spoken to only wanted to rent on this site because they wanted people who were just interested in Puerto Pollensa rather than people who are just searching for a holiday in general. The logic being that they felt happier renting to people who wanted a PP type holiday.

So many of the properties would only have been advertised on this site - now they are probably not advertised anywhere - hence no internet presence

You would have communicated directly with the people you booked with so perhaps you could contact them via email or by telephone

Thanks so much for your explanation - I understand now! But what a shame - I always used this site to find rentals and have loads saved as favourites which I can't use now
Thankfully, I do still have the email addresses for the two I have booked!

I didnt realise that HomeAway were going to take over some of the properties

I looked at a property on Home Away then went on to a local villa compay via this link and they seem very easy to deal with as their English is excellent and very prompt replies ( we will know next September if alll is well !! ) but HomeAway now contact me daily to book something !!!!!

I liked the fact with the in house booking system that if there was a problem with a property we would soon hear about it It is always a gamble We rented the same great apartment for many years until it was sold

There has been a lot of fraud in the rental business I know and for people after large villas it is quite difficult with passing over the payment as we only rent somewhere smaller we hope we are OK !!

Just to clarify, although we have only just removed the adverts for Private Rentals, advertisers were given 3 months notice and should have ensured that they had exchanged contact details with anyone who had made bookings.

You can still find a list of all properties that were advertised here: list-all-properties and this gives links to any who have decided to advertise with HomeAway.

If you have booked a property and need to confirm any details, do contact the advertiser - you should have their contact details as all booking arrangements are made direct with owners. You may also find that they are now advertising elsewhere, so do ask if you want to see photos etc.

Many of the advertisers were also local agents and these can still be found here Rent Villas, Apartments from Agents in Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca Majorca as well as the specialist UK-based villa companies here Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca Majorca Holidays - Villa Companies

Totally agree it's cd. Many owners have hunted out other places to advertise with that give competitive rates. Unfortunately it means that there are far more sites to track down and look through now when searching for a PP holiday. Somehow I don't think it will affect how many still holiday in PP, but it does make it harder to source exactly what you want.

Please help –

It’s a pity that this website’s own rentals info (which was an excellent service) has had to be closed down; but I fully understand the reasoning. I had recommended that advert source to many people; and it was the only one I have used for years..

But now it’s me who needs recommendations –

It seems I will now be trawling through Home and Away website. But can forum members recommend other websites that are trustworthy, easy to use and focused on Puerto Pollensa that I should now inspect for private rentals. (If the forum rules ban giving that sort of “competitor” info, please can you PM me).

Thanks; and genuine thanks to “pollensa” for what was an excellent rentals advert service over many years.

I hope it not against the rules to mention it but the action is at airbnb.
Safer than owners direct or home away as airbnb hold the money until after the rental starts before releasing it to the the owner/advertiser.
The chance of getting scammed is very slim as long as you follow the rules and never pay anyone directly. Only pay airbnb directly by credit card etc. If anyone sends you an email asking for a bank transfer or any other form of direct payment it is a scam.
Many of the adverts on airbnb are agencies or companies so have a good read as they are not all people that are renting their own place out.

Good point. There are many rental advertisers that operate that safe way though now, another one is Holiday Lettings.

Have read some very bad reports about AirBNB Re fraud apartments not being as advertised not cleaned etc

We have used Owners Direct with no problem but Im sure others have !! Would be nice to have a local agency to deal with Holiday Lettings is I think owned by Trip Adviser You have to put a damage deposit down but found it difficult to see how much this was on their website !Would suggest anyone does some googling if the are either letting their own property with anyone or trying to rent one

Hi Copper. Re Holiday Lettings. If the accommodation is owned privately, then it will be the owner who decides the security deposit, the same as it was on this site. If agency owned then it will be the agency. Same goes for cleaning etc. There is a direct link to the owners of the property on which queries can go straight to them so any queries can be answered straight away before booking. Hope this helps!

Would it be against forum rules for people to state their requirements and welcome Private messages from anyone who could help?

I know this would not have been allowed when the site had paid for renters but now this service is no longer available I wondered whether an accommodation wanted thread would be possible

Only Pollensa (Zelda) can answer this question but i am sure that renters have often responded to requests on the forum for rental availability via PMs .
