I am off to PP in 93 days with my 5 boys. I want to take some of the essential foods. Marmite, peanut butter etc as i know if will be cheaper to do that. Does anyone know if there are any rules about what you can and cant take?? I know I am guessing i cant take dairy. But i was going to take a couple of boxes of cereal as they were hugely expensive the last time we were in PP. Any tips or ideas will be gratefully received.

Not sure of the official line but I always take cereal and never had a problem. I usually take it in my hand luggage, out of the cardboard so as not to take up too much space.

I have also returned with fruit, the oranges are fantastic at this time of year and at 1€ per kg too good not to.

I have also taken cheese out with me, locked in an airtight lock 'n' lock. I prefer the stronger taste of the english cheeses.

Hope this helps :)

That is ace thank you Whaley. I'm sure you can imagine with 5 boys a box of cereal doesn't last long..
I was considering taking some rice and tins of beans, well that if i dont pack too many clothes.

WRIGHTSTUFF......5 BOYS!!!! They must eat you out of house and home

As far as I know you're not allowed to take any food or liquid through security unless the rules have changed recently!

I know Eroski do peanut butter (a Spanish brand) and I don't think it costs any more than in the UK. Marmite however I've only ever been able to get at The British Food Shop.

Are you sure it's that much more expensive? If you shop in the large supermarkets - Carrefour/Alcampo on the way from airport, Eroski in PP, Mercadona in Alcudia, I wouldn't think that cereal & rice would be that expensive? Possibly marmite/peanut butter.

I've seen marmite & Heinz baked beans in one of the supermarkets apart ftom BFS - it may Carrefour on the way in as this is where we first stock up.

You cannot take any liquids/gels in your hand luggage but I assume you can in your hold luggage.

As Debs said you can get Spanish peanut butter which is just as good as any other, i find local cereals are fine as is rice and is no more expensive than in the UK. ;)

thank you everyone.. last time i came i shopped in the spar so found everything a bit expensive so i intend to be a bit smarter this time.

The spar shops are at tourist prices :)

The best way to find the low price shops in any country is to look at the carrier bags that the locals are walking home with, then find that shop.

Locals find the good prices.

I would take the unusual stuff such as your Marmite etc with you,

Eroski peanut butter, cereals and beans etc are all excellent.

Mark.

i'm staying at bellresguard.. how far is eroski from there? i will have to take my 3 bigger boys and get them carrying

I may be out of date as I didn't fly at all last year, but the year before I asked if I could take my food air side so I could finish it, I think it was a rather big baguette! It was no problem to take it through, so I was able to use the two hour flight to munch my way through it.

As I say, I may be out of date. It'll be good to know so I can do it again. :)

As far as I am aware it is only meat and dairy products that you cannot take

Great idea !!!

Fruit and vegetables are much much cheaper in the weekly markets than in the supermarkets. Avoid buying those at Eroski if you can!

we always take cheese and bacon which we carry in the suitcases and have never had a problem...also take teabags, sugar, coffee, salt. I always took my own cereals (as i only like branflakes and that type) but now find Eroski own very good although i did notice the prices were up a little on last year.We had Heinz baked beans for about 85 cents in Eroski too which wasnt bad
If you cant get to the weekly market then i found the Hyper Centra supermarket much better for fruit and veg

Its a fair way to the big Eroski on the roundabout from where you will be staying but it wont be very much in a taxi back no more than about €6 I would have thought and if you buy enough for the length of your stay it will make it worthwhile

They will deliver at Eroski, i think about 5 euros.

thank you, I will take the taxi.
Do you know anyone who has stayed at the IPA Cervera apartments, address- Calle Almirante Puerto Pollensa 07470.

Hi Guys,
I understand that is illegal to take bacon and sausages in your suitcase, but I was just wondering if anybody did 'sneak' them in, and would it be risky.
Thanks for any relies

its a fair cop.. i took bacon in a cool bag with a couple of ice blocks!!!

Hi Wrightstuff,
I'll bet a lot of people do, not sure if I could dare, would probably be really nervous of getting caught.

Of course I could probably get sausages and bacon at the English food store, just prefer my favourite brand really
