Hubby got a fascinating photo of the little blighters on the move the other day, must have been 4 metres long visibly but could not see the end of the procession as it disappeared into the undergrowth, just looked like a crack in the pavement.

Hey thanks for the tip! In the end we had to use pesticide on them as we discovered at least 10 nests but we can try the other method later this year so thanks for that!

Oh my goodness! I remember when we all used to like caterpillars, now they have become little horrors! I remember watching a nest of them outside our bedroom window getting bigger and bigger and heaving just before they all emerged!! Real horror story! Glad you won the battle if not the war whaley!

Exclamation Fighting catepillars

There are several ways to combat the processionary catepillars.
There are traps with pheromones that attract the caterpillars.
You can spray the pines, in October, with a biological solution of bacteria that kill caterpillars.
Finally you can do as I most often do that is climb up in the pine and cut the branches with caterpillar’s nests and burn them. This last method is also good for keeping in shape. I am 70+ and still climbing!

Thanks for the warning Sparky!

They are horrible little critters.....and do also be careful with the bark of the trees that they have been 'parading' on as you can also get a nasty allergic reaction from it as well.
