Ryanair, today (30th Nov 09) announced that it will accept the MasterCard Prepaid card as its free form of payment from 1st December and its Visa Electron promotion will end one month later on 31st December. From 1st January the Visa Electron payment card will attract a €5 administration charge  while MasterCard Prepaid will become the sole free from of payment on ryanair.com.

Ryanair will accept both MasterCard Prepaid and Visa Electron as free forms of payment for all bookings during the month of December.

Pollenca,

Interesting to see today's press on the Office of Fair Trading's report on airline "on line booking" when you can't see what you are paying including this practice of " free credit card booking" til you've gone thru the whole process including all the "add ons " :(:(

Although , arrogantly Ryanair claim , they are just within the law think this is gonna get tightened up .

Let's hope the OFT have the bottle to see it through !!!!

BonysLad :(

Where can you get a Mastercard Prepaid????

It's a pity they ended with Visa Elektron, I used it quite often. 5pounds are not so much, but if you get cheap tickets for 1 pound or so it's just stupid to pay anotherr 5 for credit card. Will need to consider applying for MasterCard.

Even if OFT manage to see it through, Ryanair will simply transfer it onto some "other" charge?

I Have used many of the prepaid cards in the past by far the best one i have found is the Caxton FX Global Traveller.

Cheap Ryanair fees (£1.50 per booking - irrespective of number of passengers on the booking) and you can withdraw money from cash points in Mallorca at excellent exchange rates.

You can find out more here:

On the News today.........

Ryanair has increased its baggage charges to £20 for 1st bag, £50 for second in July August!!

Isn't Mr O'Leary wonderful!!

we are travelling on Thursday 10th June and returning 1st July
i usually leave off booking luggage until check in with Ryan air, and did this yesterday, so have just been stung for higher baggage costs on return flights
so there goes mrs smiddy's g & t on the return flight

We are on the Thurs flight as well, so spent tonight packing. We have an infant we cannot buy luggage for but am amazed at how much we have got into our 15kg plus 10kg hand luggage- cannot understand what I have taken in past that I am not taking this time !

Re new higher bagage charge I think when this was announced it is supposed to only be for summer flights but am not sure it will ever come down.

On the plus side for Ryanair, they broke my buggy on way home in March and once reported it was all reimbursed very quickly. Was quite impressed by that.

No doubt you'll find out when you arrive. I was feeling very pleased with myself one year and when we unpacked, I discovered that I had not packed any night/underwear for both of us. Thank heavens for the market.;)
