Default Nearly got arrested...

When we flew out to PP I forgot one golden rule...

DON'T carry anything sharp in your hand-luggage!!

What did I have in mine?? A corkscrew!!

My innocent handbag went through the scanner and was promptly confiscated. I had forgotten that my boss had given me a freebie corksccrew from work that would have come in handy in my wine research whilst in PP!

I was given three options - put the corkscrew into our other hand luggage and check it in, post the offending thing to my house or put it in the bin. I chose the latter.

But I could kick myself for being so stupid!

Good to know, though, that the security regulations are so tight.

By the way, I have nothing but praise for Easyjet. I was a bit worried about travelling with them - "If you're late, we don't wait!"

But they lived up to their name - very easy, no hassle and I enjoyed choosing my own seat. Plus, we were on time and the staff were pleasant and friendly.

Hello Belter52

I nearly died then, when I started reading your post!! I thought, "Oh no! How to win friends and influence people!!":lol

It was a pity that we missed each other, though!

Yes, we're back in August - on the 20th. We're flying into Palma with Air Berlin this time, from Stansted.

I'm sure we were there at about 11am as we checked in with Easyjet to Luton at about 10.30am and I bought some perfume for my mum.

Palma Airport always reminds me of some vast futuristic city with this disembodied voice droning on in the background about heaven knows what, and everyone scurrying about!!
It's so big!!

Seems a long tme ago now...

Regards
Jane

Default Re: Nearly got arrested

We were flying into Newark and going through the US Customs were asked did we have any fruit or meat products.

Now it was a few years back and I cannot remember if you had to fill up and sign a declaration.
Any way Sherryfan remembered she had an apple which we'd taken for snacking -I'd eaten mine-so we said to the guy yes we have an apple.

"You have an apple!" exclaimed the burly guy-well they all are aren't they and called over his supervisor-guess what a burly woman who said "you have an apple? you cannot bring an apple into the USA. This is a serious matter do you realise? how come you have an apple?"
Now we thought they were coming on a bit strong but we told the story and said we'd just not eaten the second apple.

Visions of "Assume a position!" and "Cuff them!" and Detention Centre catering sprang to mind.

"Confiscate the apple!" barked she and I said "Isn't it a beautiful big apple" but obviously this was lost on her and we got a right telling off with further examination of our Passports and onward tickets (to LA later that day).

"And Ok this time" she barked" do not do this again ever you understand and you are in transit so do not go out of the airport".

Discretion kept our mouths shut as this was one humourless dame!

A laugh in hindsight but not at the time. Needless to say even in those days we didn't have Swiss Army gear!!
