Not for a few years i must admit! Only did the drive out of season as it is a real pain getting stuck behind the coaches all the way down - or up! From what i can remember it was the actual walk down and around the beach once you had parked that was interesting. There was a river that came down to the beach over rocks but it was just a trickle at the time. As the weather wasnt really beach weather I cant remember about that side of it. Think there was a cafe close by.
If you have the time then go for it, it will be another one to cross of the list of things to do!

Sa Calobra is one of the most unique beaches in mallorca, and is worth the drive, as you said, the road is bendy, but once you get there you will understand why.

Totally agree. If you have the energy it is also worth walking from the beach back along the valley and through the river bed - the scenery is spectacular and rugged.

If you don't want to drive, I think there is a boat that visits from Puerto Soller.

There is. Nice trip.
And it is a very nice drive from Pollensa (the sharp bends going down are just part of the fun - although coach-dodging is not!).
As others have said, the walk along the torrente to the beach is spectacular but I'm afraid it's very very touristy once you get there.

There is also a bus that stops for an hour at Lluc aswell - see Bus to Sa Calobra Has anyone done this?

Been to Lluc a few times, but never by bus! Great place to visit and have now opened gardens to wander around, rustic but interesting. Even saw a hedgehog at a stream!!

Are these at the monastery or somewhere else in the town?
One of our "standard" trips (that we've done in the past from Soller) is to Lluc. We take a picnic to have somewhere near the reservoir. It's possible to get a bit off the road and into the pine trees - peaceful or what?

We did this a couple of years ago by bus. It is pretty hairy stuff. A nice touch was that the bus driver had his little daughter with him. It made us feel a lot safer.
It is a unique place but in season there are some pretty tacky restaurants there. Still it is worth it for the views.

Hi Harters, yes, the gardens are in the monestary, round to the side of the main door I think, doesnt look anything special, was only a wooden sign when we went so may well be a lot more updated now. But do go into it, nothing formal, very restful and interesting though.

Speaking of "restful", I think you can still arrange to stay overnight at the monastery. I've occasionaly wondered about doing that but have always bottled out of the necessary roughing it.

I did the drive to Sa Calobra last year and it was VERY hairy. I was also unimpressed with the beach - too many coachloads of tourists - very overrated in my opinion.

Try driving up to Soller then, and NOT taking the tunnel! Actually, CAN you avoid the tunnel now?

Yes, you can avoid the tunnel - as you approach it, there is a turn to the left, I think.

Ok peeps here's what I want to do:
We want to go to Sa Calobra for the day by public transport. Not a great demand you may think, but I have checked the bus timetables and there seems to be 1 bus only which departs from PP at 1000 and arrives at Sa Calobra at 1250 after stopping for 1 hour at Lluc. There only seems to be 1 bus back also, which departs at a pathetically early 1500 hours and arrives back in PP at 1650.
Can anyone advise if there is any other way of doing this (not by car) which would mean an earlier arrival and / or later departure.
Last year we found the buses were great, but not if you want to go anywhere for the whole day.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Paul, If all is on time that would give you 2 hrs in Sa Colobra, there is not a lot there unless you want a long lunch so 2 hrs is probably enough. Realise that it means you spend much of the day on the bus. Only other alternative I can think of is a tour with someone like NO Frills.
