We will be in PP for 2 weeks from 26 July. What is the best way to experience this event? Also the fireworks at midnight. We will have a car but should we get a taxi into the old town? We have been to PP before but with pre-school kids so only in June. Now they are 11 and 6 which means a school holiday visit. Other than it will be busier and hotter any other things we will notice? Any input will be welcome.

Hi usandthetwokids
You are there the same two weeks as us, ideal for the Fiesta starting on the 26th, if you check out the events when you arrive you will find there is lots for the kids to do in the week leading up to the 2nd, free ice-cream, competitions and other things for them to do during the day and evening. If you check out the link here to the events section, http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/showthread.php?t=1345 , you will find more info about the final day, you will need to think about how to get back, taxis are always busy as everyone tries to get back to the port. Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your holiday :)

Thanks for your advice - the Battle looks like Pamplona without the Bulls or a local derby football match in the 70's. Wouldn't want the kids to be trampled! We arrive on Sat 26 so will have plenty of time to check out whats going when we arrive. When the kids were younger we were in Menorca and were advised by the rep. to give the St Joan fiesta in Cuitadella a miss on safety grounds. Subsequently we saw on TV a wall collapsed near the harbour with the weight of revellers. Lucky no-one was killed. We have always loved the atmosphere in Pollensa and are looking forward to taking tapas at the hotel in the square. Enjoy your trip too.

No need to worry, the battle is nothing like the fiesta in Pamplona, all the local families are there, with babes in arms and pushchairs. As long as you avoid the really small streets were there may be a crush, you should be fine, if you only go to the plaza Mayor you will still get some of the atmosphere and there are less people. As for the St Joan fiesta in Cuitadella Minorca, we went when the kids where in pushchairs and had a great time, it was the year the wall collapsed I think, it must have been around 1990-91 wasn't it, that was the last year we went there before we Started going to PP. Hope you have a great time, may see you at the main square in the evenings. :)

I think the wall collapse was in 1998 (June). That was also the last time we went to Menorca - in 1999 we moved to visiting PP and have been back 3 times since staying in the Playa Mar. This year we have rented an apartment in Belleresguard for more space/independence. We have not been in July before so hopefully it wont be too hot. Although we love the pine walk in the evening, the Plaza Mayor in Pollensa also has a great atmosphere. I can always remember our little girl playing with impeccably dressed spanish children in front of the Hotel Juma? whilst we relaxed with a cold beer/glass of rosada. You never know we might bump into you!
