El Casinet will be doing Arroz Brut and BBQ for 15€ pp ;).

glentobay 13-01-2017 20:37

Will be interesting to watch the competitive bonfire building over the next couple of days. We noticed the butcher at LaVall had ready prepared trays of BBQ meat on display. They are closed on Monday so be sure to get yours tomorrow if you need this.

Sparky 14-01-2017 11:27

Yes piles of earth have appeared in just about every road it's going to be a nightmare for motorists , i love watching them build the fires, they all seem to have their own technique.

glentobay 14-01-2017 19:05

Delivery of earth

Noticed Nostalgia had its pile of earth delivered outside (under a leafless tree)!

I've never visited Sant Antoni, but there's one thing that never ceases to amaze me - some of the bonfires look so incredibly close to buildings! Looking at some of Sparky's photos I can see that some of the bonfires are pretty well stocked up with large tree trunks etc., and the heat generated must be huge. Does the paintwork etc on the buildings ever get damaged/blistered?
Anyway, one day I may come over and see it for myself. Enjoy yourselves out there, and hope the weather doesn't put too much of a damper on proceedings

copper 16-01-2017 20:11

Exactly what I was thinking Quite amazing large bonfires close to buildings !!

One day we may come out for it as well

Fingers crossed for the weather

Sparky 17-01-2017 11:05

The weather has not been kind to Sant Antoni, although it was mostly dry last night the wind got up making the fires a bit risky. Because of the extremely high wind and very rough sea the tree is not coming by boat but will be brought over on a lorry from Formentor.

Sparky 17-01-2017 11:24

I am confined to barracks with the lurgy but Mr S took these photos of the fires last night :-

Thanks to Mr S for taking the photos.

Hope you're better soon, Sparky.

Sparky 17-01-2017 11:58

Thank you Mike :).

copper 17-01-2017 12:51

Sorry you had to miss it all Sparky but Thank you for the photos

Even there the weather lets you down on special occasions !

Sparky 17-01-2017 13:25

Thank you Copper, i am really miffed not to be out in the thick of it all but it would be foolish to go out, the weather is really awful and i can't believe they are still doing the tree climbing .

LK1960 17-01-2017 15:18

Thanks for the great photos, looks amazing - would love to make it over some day. Sorry to hear you're ill Lyn, know how much you love Sant Antoni. Hope you feel better soon.

Sparky 17-01-2017 15:27

Thanks LK.
I feel sorry for those who have come out just for the fiesta, the weather gods have been unkind this year but it seems to have gone off really well generally, the tree has been climbed without any injuries......i hope :).

Pina 17-01-2017 16:56

Sorry to hear you are not feeling too good, hope you feel better soon, thanks to Colin for the great photos.

Pina 17-01-2017 16:58

Oops, by the way that last message was for Sparky.

lollipop 17-01-2017 23:08

Sparky, sorry you had to miss things but my was it cold. After going to Formentor we were too cold to watch the tree being erected and climbed.

PP76 18-01-2017 08:05

Hope your feeling better Sparky.
It was very cold but fortunately we had booked a table for lunch in Casa Vila and were able to watch it from there.

Yes the weather was awful and there were far fewer people at Formentor and in the square ..... 2 of our group were new to San Antoni and I feared they would not " catch the bug " , but my fears were unfounded ..... even a cut down version of our fvaourite festival has charmed them ..... despite the wind, cold, hail, snow etc

Gómez takes the Pollensa pine crown once again » Balearics » News » Majorca Daily Bulletin

Quote:

It is one of the most anticipated of events during the Sant Antoni fiestas - the climbing of the pine (Pi de Sant Antoni) in Pollensa's Plaça Vella. While parts of Majorca struggled with snow and wind and had to put off the traditional animal blessings, there was no deterring those who set off for the Ternelles finca to collect the pine and wheel it into the town. ...

In Puerto Pollensa, meanwhile, they weren't quite so lucky with the weather. Rough seas meant that the Formentor pine had to arrive by truck rather than by boat. This pine, which goes up in the afternoon rather than evening, was scaled by Patricio Medina.

Just got back from our first experience of Sant Antoni and have to say that we had a fantastic time. Although we had to leave yesterday before the tree finally arrived we sheltered from the snow in the bars around the square chatting and had a great time the night before at the fires. Yes the weather was surreal as on Monday we sat outside in the sun having lunch and a drink and yesterday drove home in the snow!!!

What we both appreciated the most was the way that the locals welcomed us in to their celebration on both days and that we never felt that we were gate crashing their fun.

If you have not done it before we thoroughly recommend Fiesta Sant Antoni, put it in your diary now, we will be back next year!!!! :)

sws97sdg 23-01-2017 14:31

Agree with everything Teflon said, got back on Saturday and had a fantastic time again, weather was bad as you know, but we still had a great time. Everyone seemed to be intent on enjoying themselves and despite the weather the fires were great, less people around for the tree and such a shame they had to shorten the route, but still so enjoyable and great to see the locals having fun.

sws97sdg 23-01-2017 16:40
