Default The Port de Pollença host in October 1st boat show to benefit fishermen

Reported today in the El Port de Pollença acogerá en octubre una feria náutica a beneficio de los pescadores » Part Forana » Noticias » Ultima Hora Mallorca,

The Port de Pollença host for the first time on 12 October, a second-hand boat show with the idea to raise funds to help fishermen Moll in these times of crisis. It is an initiative promoted by the web surfers helps boatinginmallorca.com that terminates with the City Council of Pollença, the Marina and the fishermen themselves the details of programming.
"The idea for this event grew out of an article published last year in Ultima Hora that warned of the difficult economic situation faced by fishermen Moll and Cala Ratjada" explains the head of boatinginmallorca , Sebastià Danthez. "We thought that if we unite achieve more things separately," says Danthez.
Cycles and conferences
The second hand boat show will not be a fair use but incorporate a complementary program with lectures, workshops and all kinds of activities. "It's something new, that is not usually done in Spain, but deeply rooted in places like France," says Danthez. The idea is to combine the display and sale of second hand vessels in the grounds of the Real Club Nautico de Pollença with conferences and events that have a great ability to summon. "People will come to talk about their experiences, athletes, for example, who have turned the island into sailing, boatinginmallorca representative says.
Admission to the fair is free so that fundraising for the benefit of fishermen will be done through a series of raffles to be held throughout the day.
The fishermen of Port de Pollença real trouble came in late October in order to meet the advance payment of the occupation of the warehouse and dock area that required them Ports de Balears. Half a dozen fishermen have evicted the stores in the last year for failing to meet the quota contributions. They pay an average of 900 euros per year to occupy a warehouse of 13 square meters, priced well above what is paid in the State transferred ports.
After publicly denouncing Ports de Balears fishermen earlier this year agreed not to continue the advance payment but charge them for the occupation title expired in June and December.
The boat show will be held on October 12 at the Club Nautico.

Interesting article above. I recently came across a couple of people working in the hotel/restaurant business who said that they did some commercial fishing from small boats - probably the traditional Llouts - in P.P. during the winter months to supplement their income, not easy. We are presently still in hard times and most hotel/restaurant jobs are certainly not for 12 months of the year or anywhere near. I am always very grateful for the excellent service we generally receive from both staff and management at the various hotels and eating establishments we visit during our stays in P.P. - please don't take them for granted, they don't always have an easy life.

I urge any body who is in the port during this event to try to support it even if you have no interest in boats go along and buy a raffle ticket. Imagine our beautiful PP without all the little fishing boats and the Marina not as it is now full of a mixture of boats of all shapes and size and age and character But ripped apart and filled with floating Gin palaces for the "Fur coat and no britches brigade "
Think of all those evening strolls around the port we all enjoy and support this event which will help maintain the serenity and uniqueness that is the Port
El Gordo and whaleywanderer like this.
