Default Goldcar rip offs continue

Despite being taken over by Eurocar, Goldcar continue their sharp practices.

This was featured on the BBC4 radio programme, "You and Yours", which was aired yesterday, 27th September. You can listen to it on BBC Radio iplayer.

There were some eye watering accounts, including one listener who was charged an additional €200 as a "transaction fee".

You use this company at your peril!

Thank goodness you have posted this. We were considering trying them soon. We usually rent with Vanrells, but they seem to have doubled their prices.

I rented a Vanrell Berlingo last month. Cost me €250 for 5 days fully covered. Fair enough I didn't have to worry about damage.... but that was more because the car was smashed up to #@#$£

Ironically, I opened the glovebox and found the insurance/log book and it was owned by.... Goldcar!!!

MPH133, the rate is certainly better with Rent a Car Formentor. Looks like you pick the car up on the 4th floor of the airport too!! Thank you for this information, I think we are going to change for the first time in years!!

I have been using HyperRentaCar for 10-20 years. They have an office in Puerto de Pollensa, should you have "issues" to solve locally.

I pick up and return the cars at Palma airport.

Latest (september 2018) rental cost me 10 € a day for a Renault Clio, over a 21 day period. Previous rental (July 2018) was 12 € a day for a 28 day period.

Used GoldCar twice; first was OK; second a ripoff. Friends of mine were totally ripped off by GoldCar at their first experience in Mallorca; however were very happy with their previous experience in Malaga/Marbella.

I regularly used Hiper and Centauro. Both off airprot but not an issue for me.
Centauro is very convenient as there is a petrol station right next door for when you drop the car off.

I use Hiper in the Port all the time - excellent service. I would like to use them from the airport but my wife has very limited mobility, finding it difficult to climb into/out of mini-buses. Can someone who has used them at Palma give me some advice as to how easy/hard transfer to off-airport site is.

From arrivals (luggage pickup) to the hiperrentacar minibus it's flat ground so a wheelchair can be used; distance is about 200 meters.

From minibus dropoff to office (where you sign the papers) say around 100 feet, flat surface.

From office to cars, again about a 100 feet, typically.

Climbing into the minibus is two steps with good handrails to help.

We use RecordGo all the time and they are fine other than the occasional wait at the airport.

Do people have a problem with RecordGo?

I use Record all the time. Usually about 4 rentals per year totalling 9-10 weeks rental. Everything fine until this September when they decided to close the newer second office at the airport leaving 1/2 the number of staff to deal with the huge demand. Needless to say the staff were overwhelmed. When I got a 'queue' ticket I was 65th in line. They were processing customers at their normal 10 minute rate. With 4 staff the maths worked out at a 2.5 hours wait. I was not pleased but they were using the opportunity to sell 'priority line' tickets for €50 a shot. This meant that ordinary customers just got shunted further down the line. Others I know just gave up and got a taxi.
I'll give them another try later this month but if the queues are the same this will be the last time I'm afraid.
