REVIEW: East ( Naciente) of the sun and west of the moon

Got meself invited to a leaving party last Monday night at Naciente for some ex pat friends returning to the UK. Told it was tapas and wine so turned up with a clean shirt and a promise to Bonyladette to be on my best behaviour. ( Splashed a bit of Brut on as well, Jimbo !!! ).

First surprise was that the place was so busy, being a Monday night and the current occupancy of restaurants here, predominantly locals but the odd scattering of tourists as well.

My interpretation of Tapas is usually a bowl of mixed savoury goodies but this was a completely different ball game. We started with pedron peppers, prawns in garklic sauce and then many, many more plates including lamb cutlets, brochettas with anchovies, aubergines with mixed veg and even fried eggs with curly potatoes .

Very, very enjoyable and all washed down with good Mallorquian reds.

Naciente has been around fror years so has obviously survived the "old grey whistle test " . Intrigued to try solo ( OK, so I'll probably take BLT along as well !! ) .

Any reports from you guys ?

Sounds good Bonyslad, why have they not opened the garden area yet?
Btw Jimbo will be out the end of May and asked me to let all his old muckers know. Me thinks there could be a hell of a good meet in JK's, are you up for it.

Great to hear its still going strong BL! We loved going there for their peppers during the winter, as well as the log fire and great house wine, but for some reason the past couple of years it has been closed when we needed it! Has it now been refurbished as it looked as if something was going on earlier in the year - or was that just a late clean up?! What about hiring it out for a ppf party!!! Just wishful thinking really!

We phoned the said departees yesterday (B & R "the old crooner"

) and they said they were very impressed in fact "raved on" by the quantity, quality and variety of "Tapas". I wonder if this was specially organised or it is available from their menu?

Thanks Naciete for making their party such a memorable occasion.

Not a place I have frequented but will try it out in August.

Bonyladdie,

We used to eat at Naciente on the recommendation of my pal (who's flat we used). First year or two were great incl. food then service diminished, especially when "rich locals" dropped in, but hey ho, many holiday restraunts throughout the med hot spots can be like that.
p.s. you must be the only oldie that still remembers Brut!

Is that Brut as in Seco as in Dry or that great aftershave that used to make me go weak at the knees when i was just a little maid (westcountry speak for a girl) for you guys north of Bristol.

Aye, rich locals! Remember we were in a couple of years ago and this "rich" local arrives, never seen such groveling, even Basil Fawlty would have been embaressed !

Good to hear from you. I have read a few of your posts and hate to say it, but I AGREE with all of them.

Ahhh good, confession is good for the soul (I read that in a book).
Nasties, as I call it can be many things to many people. We have experienced fabulous meals and very high standards from the staff but also, the worst as you describe. Such is life.

To ALL try it for yourself.
