Myself and hubby have always made it a golden rule that when we are on holiday, we have what we want when we want it and economise for the rest of year. Life and holidays are too short. Enjoy both while you can.

Went and changed £200 into euros today as we're off to Bruges for the weekend on Friday. Exchange rate was 1.20 euros to the pound. I received 240 euros for my £200.

On the bottom of the print out was a currency converter and 100 euros was equivalent to around £83. Last year we were calculating that it was about £70.

Oh help!

What have I started.?

Of course my topic makes everyone think and express a few views, that’s what the Forum is all about.

So, just looking over the comments, here are a few of my own.

To Bonyslad, love the posts , keep ‘em coming.

To Belladonna, “para llevar” are the two words to know, displayed outside some restaurants. And by the way, I’ve seen quite a lot of locals taking away the Paella on a Sunday from Ikebana. That must be a good endorsement.

To Jane, hmnn, discussing it last night with hubby, sounds serious, and that bit about being over ** years of age!
Jane , I remember the night you declared to be the “baby” in the old PP Forum Chat Room, so remember others may also have sleepless nights!

To Lala! OLD? You are not!

Forget it!

Gary, tell us if there is much money in this busking!

Smiddy, there are risks in your suggestion, you might not eat anything on the great PP menus!

Jonquet, yes there are ways and means of cutting costs.

And for lunch of course some lovely slices of coca from Voramar Supermercado perhaps??

More views anyone??

PS Apologies if I missed anyone out!!

Porto

Talking Money money money!

Porto - thanks for the summary - you made me chuckle - you are not an advocate are you by any chance?

To put Jane's conversion another way that means - for £100 you only get €120 instead of €140 - there goes my "divide it by 3 then multiply by 2" ready reckoner - or if had too much wine and that seems impossible arithmetic "mulitply it by 7" What will I do now?

I agree wholeheartedly with Sparky about having whatever you want on holiday but the Scot in me likes to check I am not being robbed! Multiplying by 1.2 seems too difficult for a holiday brain - any suggestions!

A young Lala!

I too have a recipe for Almond Cake that I got one year out of the Holiday in Majorca magazine havent attempted it yet but am a bit staggered that you need to use 8 eggs.

We haven't really noticed the prices going up each year (we have been coming since 1998) but like Jonquet dont tend to watch prices when we are in PP but having said that this year that we will stop wasting money on ice creams in the afternoon which we dont really want but eat anyway and packets of biscuits from the supermarkets and wont visit the perfume shops quite so much so there is still enough left for the lovely meals, we tend to do two cheaper nights then a dearer one.

Phwooooargh , I just love feisty women !!!!!

There's your poor hubby slaving away to take you to such lovely places and all you do is dessert !!!!

Stop buying such expensive shoes and you might be able to afford a night out !!!!

Lala70w - Our quick conversion guide -last year it was mulitply 7 this year multiply by 8 (well as a rough rule of thumb..)

Cant wait - will be out Monday for a week

Generally we always breakfast in the apartment...lunch usually baguettes or something light. If we are only there for a week we tend to eat out most nights but in the summer when we are there for 2 weeks we may eat out every 2 or 3 nights...It will be interesting to compare prices this year.

Hello guys and gals!

lala!

Been called a few things but an advocate?? Wow!

This exchange rate is becoming really a prob!

Jane 1.20!!

That's horrific!

When I have bought recently I go to "The Cheque Shop" or "the Money Shop". Yes, yes , I know who'd be seen coming out of there, but generally they leave places like travel agents for dead. and who goes to the banks nowadays??

Don't pay more than you have to!!

Default Eating & Drinking Costs 2008

Guys,

Think it will be helpful and practical to you if instead of posting fatuous comments ( Bella, seriously, thanks for being a great sport, your shoes are now " off limits" ) I was to compile a list of meal of the day prices showing IVA inc/exc plus whether drink prices ( i.e. a bottle of wine between two).

Will restrict it to those restaurants that offer MDD during the evening and are really looking for Tourist trade rather than lunchtime only "worker" only type places.

Will try to complete by the time I return to the UK , in about three weeks time. Hopefully this will help and guide folk in planning and managing their fewer Euros this year.

Take care all ( sun just poked through after a little rain this morning )

BonysLad

Jane,

Have you remortgaged? If you think it's dear here wait til you hit those Bruge eateries !!!!
