Just back and boy have we eaten well!
Very reluctantly returned home yesterday after 10 days in the port which is as lovely as ever. We dined out every night and most lunch times which was a real treat this year. We only had one disappointing meal and that was my husbands half shoulder of lamb that was tough, staff did not offer a replacement and we were charged for it, that was in the Bistro Joker. We had never eaten there before and as it was always busy we thought we would give it a try, and to be fair the rest of our meals were good. We dined at The Guru twice, enjoyed the jazz session on the Sat night, food and service very good, esp liked their calzone! Top of our dining experiences was our beloved Tango, in fact better than ever. We hadn`t seen Manolo and family for 7 years since they moved around the bay, and we were lucky to be staying in a casa just around the corner. We decided to go on our first night and thought maybe they would have forgotten us although we have been going to the port since 1987. No way! We were instantly recognized, welcomed like family and Marcos proudly introduced us to his wife and adorable little girls! Their menu del dia has to be the best bargain in the port, amazing at 18.50 euros and fabulous food. Also one night had their mixed paella for a change, again fab. Our new find and favourite place for lunch was in the square at the Hostal Borras. Seemed to be a one man band, wish I knew his name because he deserves a special thank you. He did everything, the waiting, the clearing, the cooking and was always smiling! His sandwiches were to die for, next time we will try his evening meals! If we didn`t have lunch out we had take aways from the Al Fresco Deli as it was right next door to our casa. Excellent standard of food, always busy busy so pre order. We had one little grumble about the spare ribs meal and were instantly refunded. Lovely staff and lovey food, highly recommended. Not going near the weighing scales just yet! A fab time was had by all!
