11 nights in July

Will try to keep this a brief as possible but it is a little difficult trying to get through 11 nights and not miss anything out. We decided before we left home we would go to a different restaurant every night, some are regulars of ours and we managed to fit a few new ones in, here goes...........................
Day 1: Tango - We always go to tango on our first night, a bit of a family tradition, welcomed by Manolo as we walked through the door.
We had avocado prawns & Majorcan frito to start followed by roast suckling pig & lamb shank with rosemary, not desserts as to full, also had a couple of beers with a bottle of house white wine & water, excellent food and value at 58 euros.

Day 2: Can Josef - fireworks night so went in and booked a table the previous night to make sure we got a table. We had tempura prawns & eggs with chorizo to start followed by salmon in cider sauce & chicken breast in pepper sauce, a couple of beers with a bottle of house white wine & water.
Very good service from Josef as usual with food to match, good value at 66 euros.

Day 3: O'Lume - Anniversary night so it had to be O'Lume. Lovely setting in the courtyard just a pity only one other couple there. Jamie greeted us with a glass of cava while we studied the menu. We had grilled crayfish & garlic prawns to start followed by seabass in martini sauce & pork medallions in mustard sauce, desserts were black & white chocolate mousse & cream cheese mousse in honey sauce, we had a bottle of cava & water followed by coffees with brandy, tia maria & chocolates. Fantastic food, setting & service and at 86 euros, excellent value, already looking forward to September.

Day 4: Stay - Booked a table for 2 the previous day again to make sure we got the table we wanted. Opted for menu OTD, salmon ravioli & vegtable spring rolls with Thai red curry sauce for starters followed by fish & prawns with rice & veg, minted lamb steaks with foie gras sauce, we had a trio of desserts all washed down with a couple of beers, a bottle of house white wine & water and coffees. Everything was perfect with the moonlight flickering off the sea, great value for 74 euros.

Day 5: Mar Calma - A new restaurant for us and a really good find. We started with strawberry gazpacho with parmesan flakes & tomato, basil & garlic pasta followed by chicken with Thai noodles followed by coconut ice cream dessert. We had the usual bottle of wine & water, and the bill was 52 euros. A great first visit and will definitely return.

Day 6: Los Zarzales - We have been to this old favourite plenty of times but this visit coincided with the flamenco night so it was a set menu which we didn't realise but it was still as good as ever. We had gazpacho x 2 for starters followed by salmon in champagne sauce & steak in pepper sauce, for desserts we had traditional Majorcan orange pudding & ice cream. For drinks we had sangria, a bottle of cava & water. It was a brilliant evening watching the flamenco and the food & service were excellent, all for 74 euros.

Day 7: Capri - Another new place for us to try. We started with gazpacho with lobster & red peppers stuffed with seafood and lobster sauce followed by fillets of seabass with vegetables and confit of duck in blackcurrent jus. Just one dessert to share, apple tart tartan with ice cream. We had a couple of beers, a bottle of house white wine & water, the bill came to 86 euros which taking into account the food, service and setting was excellent.

Day 8: La Goleta - An old favourite of ours which we think is much under-rated and rarely seems to get a mention, a place to go for the whole evening and make an occasion of it. We started with homemade tomato soup & garlic bread followed by chicken in pepper sauce (it was huge) and entrecote steak (cooked to perfection & the second best steak I have ever eaten), for dessert we had crepes suzette cooked at our table. As we were there for the evening we had a couple of beers, a bottle of house white wine & water followed by an irish coffee & a tia maria. We then went and sat outside and had 2 strawberry dacquaris & 2 magners. The service and food were fantastic and at 108 euros it was our most expensive meal but it did go on till approx. 1.00am. Looking for a repeat in September.

Day 9: Trencadora - Our first visit to this restaurant, booked a table in the garden, glad we did as quite a few people turned up and they were unable to get a table. Started with bruschetta & rustic focaccia, followed by pasta with mushrooms & pasta with meatballs. Didn't have a dessert as it started to rain. Had the usual bottle of house white wine & water, the bill came to 47 euros. The meal and service were OK, we will probably give it another try, maybe we made the wrong selections from the menu.

Day 10: Tolos - We hadn't been here on an evening for quite a few years, don't know why because it was excellent. Started with avocado & prawns and Tolos spicy mussels, for mains we both had chicken & vegetable skewers with fries, no desserts as the chicken skewers were huge. To drink we had a couple of beers followed by a bottle of house white & water. The bill came to 56 euros and it was worth every cent. PS Bradley Wiggins was in the house.

Day 11: Maxims - Returned to an old favourite we hadn't been to for 2 or 3 years, the food was always good but sometimes feel they want to rush you out, started with beef & cumin spring rolls & langostines and vegetable tempura with sesame seed dip, tempura cod with fries x 2 (fish & chips), no desserts. Had bottle of wine & water. Bill came to 58 euros. Went to Valls for 2 banana & toffee ice creams to finish the evening, brilliant.

Sorry it has gone on so long, you can tell there is nothing on TV tonight.

Overall, we had some absolutely fab meals, some excellent meals and a couple of OK meals but no bad meals, now dieting ready for September to do it all over again.

Great Report

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your report.

Have not been to Los Zarzales in ages and your description of the night makes me think it might be time for a return visit.

What night is the Flemenco on ?

Cheers

Scotslizzy

Brilliant report you have mentioned restaurants that we haven't tried before. Roll on next June

Fantastic write up...how on earth do you remember everything you ate? I try but can never recall every meal and can't bring myself to sit in a restaurant making notes. Well I would but hubby would think I'm very antisocial ;)

Scotslizzy, we went on a Thursday night but I think it is now on Tuesdays also, excellent night, the dancers really give their all and Yolande is the perfect host.

Debz1, knew we wanted to write report so try to write down what we had when we get back to hotel room, failing that, if the vino has taken over we try to remember what we had the next morning over breakfast.

No lunch today, trying to lose some weight before September and have to do it all again.

Thanks for the write up on places to eat - 11 nights is some going :-) we will only be having 8 nights in September so that means there will be difficult decisions to make but what ever we do, agree there will never be bad meal served - only some better than others.

Great post, Hamcas. You like many of the same places as us and I'm glad to see La Goleta gaining increasing positive mentions on the Forum. It's also a great place to stay - best views across the bay in PP!

Must have a look at some of the restaurants we've never tried. Never considered Tolos (only ever had breakfast there on the way back to the airport).

:)
